I have never seen lightning strike, but my parents have told me before I was born lightning struck either the house or a near by tree and damaged the TV, radio and permanently knocked our solar panels offline

Friendly Hostile

The tree in our neighbor's yard got hit, and we thought it hit our house.

I had one strike like... 20 metres in front of me.  it was cool  (i was on a porch and our cabin is on a lake and it struck the lake by the shore).
10 feet, I win. Freaking eardrum breaker. Good thing I had my big warm hood thing up at the time so it was muffled. It is as bright as hell to. We were in the car driving home when BOOOM! It hit the tree right next to our stopped car. I was shaking for 3 minutes.

Yeah...i've had thunder that loud a few times...It always scares me. :(

HTA!

Struck a tree outside of our house... screwed up some of the wires in our TV and you could smell heated metal.

Nayrman

Yes, some stuff on my shelf fell off because the thunder was almost earthquake propportions

Lightning actually struck our house. I was really young (maybe 10) and my friend was over and his mom had come to pick him up because the weather became really bad. She and my mom were sitting in the kitchen the lighting and the lightning struck a supporter right behind my mom. All of our tvs are messed up because of it and we had to replace all of our VCRs. Funny thing is my friend and I freaked out and ran into the garage and hugged my bicycle tires thinking it would save us cuz they were rubber. xD

Dude, there was one where it was about 15 miles away, and it sounded like a propane tank exploding.

Flying Chickens

One took out the roof of the house next to ours. Scary as hell, fun to watch the roof caving in.

a big tree about 10-15 feet away from my house got struck once, and it fell.

the other way. thank god.

and i once was swimming in my pool, when thunder hit. me and my friends frantically got out of the pool and went inside. lightning struck the pool. o_O
I really hate how I've made more than 12,000 posts here. Thankfully this swaying, moving Chandelure makes it all worth it.

i  heard of a time a woman was stuck in a thunderstorm when she got struck by lightning and died. how? the metal underwire in her bra attracted the lightning. o_O

I have had a lot of loud thunder here, but from what you told me.  I am positive that yours was louder and closer.
