why does Miyamoto put himself behind poopty shovelware like this?  Where is the acclaimed and famous game developer that we all knew and loved?  This is depressing...

I don't see it as Shovel-Ware, I see it as unique. I recall a time when his big things were just amusement for nerds, and now his creations are global hits. So yeah, maybe this isn't Mario, but then again, perhaps the "Wii Series" will be huge. And don't give me the "it's shovelware, that's why", he's doing his job, giving the majority what they want. Besides, if you want the "old" Miyamoto, this is him, pushing the limits. My two cents.

this isnt pushing the limits.

the old miyamoto produced games for the core gamer.  he pushed the limits, but in a way that gave the core gamer fun.

why would you buy this instead of RB or GH?  It looks ridiculous.  you can't win, you can't lose.  it's not a game.  it's software.

Core gamers didn't exist at that time, so how could he? Everyone was a casual gamer. There is no way you can convince me the original Mario is hardcore, my four year old cousin plays it.

It is merely a different experience. Endless Ocean isn't a game where one can win or lose either, it's "software", by your rights. These titles push the definition of a game.

i have no idea what Endless Ocean is. Isn't it an RPG?

I'd consider anything flight simulator-esque to be software.  if you can't win or lose, it's software, not a game.

games for gamers is what he used to make.  OoT.  TWW even.  I'm not talking early Miyamoto, the one who brought us Donkey Kong.

"games" like Wii Music, Wii Sports, et cetera are not games.  they're software.  He has changed what he is making.  He moves with the money, and I can respect that, but selling out while claiming that you haven't is pitiful.

It's shovelware.
I can understand the INTENTION, but since it's pretty much blatantly marketed to little kids, and there is absolutely no goal in the game whatsoever, this is shovelware. Designed to make a quick buck without actually trying. Want the tracks to be familiar you say? Well, sorry, all the songs you put in are lame and are meant for little kiddies. You want a "game" where everyone would be interested? Sorry, most gamers like GH and the like because it can actually be challenging. If they wanted to make their own music, they'd either buy some real music software (instead of some lame ass MIDI clips...), or an instrument for real.

I'm not going to complain about hte lack of hardcore stuff because I know it's coming, but this game is an almost blatant slap to the face of the core gamer. I think Nintendo has lost the vast majority of them forever to Sony and Microsoft

You know, this would be kind of like if Martin Scorsese directed a children's film or something.

People know that he hasn't changed his ways, and that he would eventually make a masterpiece. He would just be too lured by easy money and the chance to be really well known outside of a select group of people.

So yeah, I think Miyamoto is doing a fine job. Without him, there would be NO what everyone considers "core" first party titles on the Wii since everyone else seems to have turned away from those types of games for the time being.

Also, Katsuya Eguchi made most of the Wii series games, as well as Animal Crossing. Miyamoto had precious little control over the execution of the basic concept he gave Eguchi and his team.

Miyamoto talking to Gamedaily

GD: What is your response to people who love, say, Super Mario Galaxy, but who are not so interested in things like Wii Music?

Miyamoto: My attitude is that obviously for 30 years now I've been making games and for the vast majority of time I've been making the type of games that the loyal Nintendo fans enjoy. Those are the types of games that my career is based on and we're going to continue to make those types of games. In fact, we have many of those types of games in development right now.

miyamato is working on new zelda and mario games right now, but i agree that wii music will suck because there is no way to win or lose, the mii freestyle mode in guitar hero world tour is very similar to what i think wii music will be, and sucks
