I tend to use OneManga for that

Anime, I tend to use anime-media and watchanimeon. But torrent is the best bet for downloads.

For anime, I recommend nyaatorrents.org and animesuki.com, but what I really recommend is using the trackers that some sub groups have.  If you know which subbing group is doing the anime you want to watch you can get it from their tracker directly.

And for stuff you don't wanna download, there's MangaFox, OneManga, (manga) and OtakuCenter (anime).
