we really need some ethical standards on the forum
« on: August 01, 2017, 03:49:04 AM »
it's a hot one, a hot political climate, a hot debate for a forum

recently user viewtifulboy (a well respected, long time member of the forum) has suggested that certain users are a bit too hot headed and saying some nasty things that very well could be driving potential members away from the forum! I know this may come as a shock, you all thought we were doing well as a forum, but that's actually far from the truth. The sad truth is that we have a small user base, small surges in activity, and it's a quick rope slipping away down the mountainside if we don't clean up our act.

I honestly thought we were absolutely done for before I realized (after reading the brilliant post viewtifulboy made of course, credit where credit is due)
I realized that I had come up with the great idea of: "Let's add some ethical standards to the forum!"

Right now hundreds, maybe even thousands of new users are flocking to the forum every day in search of a new Nintendo focused web forum to post their exciting new nintendo and gaming related content on, but the problem is, they see our posts like "intercourse  you faggot" and IMMEDIATELY turn the other way. it doesn't have to be this way! we can change for the better, we can change our ways and rebirth ourselves as a kind, caring and compassionate forum that doesn't have words like "autistic idiot" written on it!

let's take care of this in the best way we can
let's create a list of the most problematic and most worthy of punishment users we can, that way we can berate them until they decided to leave on their own terms! let's think of it as a public lynching on a forum, it will surely clean the place the heck up.

so let's get at it
everyone contribute your top 5 most problematic posters and we'll take care of them after that

Good job! I, Viewtifulboy, declare you the CHAMPION!
I'm the official winner of the Viewtiful Victory roleplay championship!

I'd like to add my two cents here.

In this modern age of internetworking (I'll refer to this as Internet from now on), we have many opportunities open to us. It is easier to find jobs, study many subjects, shop, and keep in touch with our uncles.

It has also, however, changed the social landscape. Due to the amount of anonymity that this Internet allows, many have found it exceedingly easy to cause a ruckus, impersonate other people, offend without consequence, and share their political expertise. This has spread to even the most unexpected places, such as (what should be) wholesome Nintendo discussion platforms.

Recent events here, as Custom and Sir Viewtifulboy have eloquently pointed out, have only turned off our potential viewership.

I am afraid to admit that we here at NSFCD lacked such foresight. Our potentialities have been squandered for far too long because of the tenacious behavior of some of our patrons, and the staff members that let it go on for so long.

This Internet cannot be sustained by hives of such inane and immoral behavior. In the effort to rectify this, I am proud to endorse Custom's initiative, and would like to announce the formation of the NSFCD Committee of Ethics and Etiquette. Our staff will now monitor every post in an attempt to curb the hunger pangs of society's bottomfeeders and their destructive intents on this Internet platform, NSFCD.

Now is the time to take a stand. To change our ways. To create a place where minds can be nourished, and joy can be attained through clean discussion and stimulating friendships. Thank you for your time.

~Super, Admin of NSFCD and Chairman of the Committee of Ethics and Etiquette.

You're laying it on a little thick there.  We don't have to be perfect or anything, but one thing we shouldn't be is openly toxic.  People don't come swarming here, but if we're more inviting, and actually do something about the toxic users, they come across it they'll be more inclined to join.
Very clever of him, but hacker forgot the key difference.
