Peach has been confirmed! Not really "newcomer," but frankly I like any kind of update that actually showcases something instead of just Sakurai screwing around at the office.

HD Peach looks nice; she's got a cool, colorful cartoony look like Mario and Bowser. I'm really glad they've moved away from Melee's darkness and Brawl's more realistic stuff; you can have nice detailed designs without taking away the spirit and fun.
