Title: Super Smash Bros.
Post by: The Riddler on June 11, 2013, 05:41:56 AM
Finally announced for the Wii U and 3DS, Super Smash Bros. (actual title) will be here in 2014.

I'm gonna pick apart the reveal and see what's confirmed in it, but just like Brawl, they have a website up.
www.smashbros.com/us/

Differences between each version:
Graphics. 3DS version has a sort of cel-shaded look.
Exclusive Stages. "Stages in the 3DS version will be based on handheld games, while stages in the Wii U version will be based on console games."

Characters:
Villager - Animal Crossing
(http://www.smashbros.com/images/character/murabito/main.png)
- Uses Bug Net, Slingshot, Shovel, Axe, Sapling, Umbrella, Bowling Balls, Fireworks Launcher, Balloon Fighter's Balloons, and Boxing Gloves, and pulls weeds. Can pick up items and pocket them, including some projectiles like Mario's Fireball and Samus' Missle/Charge Shot, then use them later.

Megaman - not X!
- Uses Mega Blaster, his dog Rush, Shoyruken, Metal Blades, Crash Bomber, Leaf Shield, Hard Knuckle, Flame Sword, Slash Claw, Spark Shock, Super Arm, and Flame Blast.

Wii Fit Trainer - Wii Fit...wtf - Uses moves based on training positions from Wii Fit. Sakurai trolls us all. Although the reveal video is humorous.

Returning vets:
Mario
(http://www.smashbros.com/images/character/mario/main.png)
Donkey Kong
(http://www.smashbros.com/images/character/donkey_kong/main.png)
Samus
(http://www.smashbros.com/images/character/samus/main.png)
- Direct-able final smash?, design based on Other M
Pikachu
(http://www.smashbros.com/images/character/pikachu/main.png)
Fox
(http://www.smashbros.com/images/character/fox/main.png)
Pit -
(http://www.smashbros.com/images/character/pit/main.png)
Design based on Uprising, new moves include Guardian Orbitars, Upper-Dash Arm
Link
(http://www.smashbros.com/images/character/link/main.png)
Bowser
(http://www.smashbros.com/images/character/koopa/main.png)
- stands more upright, can run, is faster, has some new moves
Kirby
(http://www.smashbros.com/images/character/kirby/main.png)
Stages:
Battlefield
Gerudo Valley Bridge
Spirit Tracks Train
Nintendogs Living Room
Skyloft
(floating platform/moving background stage)
Super Smash Bros. Boxing Arena
Animal Crossing stage
Dr. Wily's Castle
Wii Fit Training Room
Arena Ferox (Fire Emblem)

(What appears to be some kind of ancient coliseum)
(What appears to be an ocean based on Super Mario w/ destructible platforms)
Some forest stage with a rotating platform.
Some sky ruins stage

I'm excited about the new characters! Zero nearly cried when he saw Megaman. I don't know why they wouldn't use the New Leaf Villager, though...

Also Pikachu lost weight again.

Rock Hard Gamer Boner Initiated.
I am happy.
Not because of Mega Man Necessarily, though he is awesome (I personally would have prefered Mega Man X, but I was sure if any Mega Man was gonna make it, it would be Classic), but because all of this so far, looks phenomenal.

Also, it APPEARS Villager might be WiiU Exclusive.
or maybe there's a completely new look for 3DS version of Villager.

Don't assume anything is exclusive until they say it. The games are supposed to be cross compatible. They list everything together at the website as a whole.

I'm just talking about the pictures are ONLY WiiU
Though, they may just be oddly lazy there, as some people have LOTS of 3DS pics, while others have like, 2.

It's freaking hilarious. I love how she talks so calmly; amazing new character.

Also, I almost cried and screamed during that entire trailer. Mario, Kart, DK, Bayonetta, and X looked amazing too. Best E3 ever.

Title: Re: Super Smash Bros.
Post by: The Riddler on June 11, 2013, 10:24:42 AM
cel shading takes less processing power, aka means more content

Also the outlining is so that the characters can be easily seen on the smaller screen.

I'm surprised they didn't go with Tom Nook considering he's essentially the face of the franchise. I also wonder if you'll be able to choose male or female villager when you select them.

"Trolling" isn't even an exaggeration; Sakurai straight-up says in the interview that he added Wii Fit Trainer because none of the fans wanted her.

Dear Sakurai, no one cares if Ray 01 gets into Smash.

He didn't say that, he said no one expected her.

Same difference when it comes to this character. Honestly, it's a waste of a space. I've calmed down a bit with it but overall, there are so many better characters they could have put in. It's just not a character (if you can even call it that) that makes sense, considering Wii Fit is just a virtual aerobics/yoga instructor. You really can't even consider it a "game" in even the most basic of senses. Honestly, it confuses me and makes me wonder what Sakurai is really thinking. The reaction has been lukewarm at best. Many hate it on Miiverse and gaming sites, many are still confused, many are finding it hilarious, but no one is honestly finding it "Yeah, that's a good choice!". You have to wonder how much (or in this case, how little) he cares about the fans if he's willing to show off a choice he knows no one is honestly going to like at the game's premiere. It's just baffling.
Title: Re: Super Smash Bros.

Every game has had joke characters, and everyone always ends up loving them. The fact is that the "Wii" series sells really well and has tons of games and is a big deal for Nintendo, and adding this female Trainer is a hilarious way to represent it. By the time this game comes out, people are going to love her like they do everyone else.

Geez, this game is so beautiful. HD Link looks insane, Samus has a really cool redesign with new lights and stuff on her armor, Pikachu almost looks like a different art style, it's all amazing.

SO, with the first 3 trailers released and the website up, it is officially time for this forum to REAWAKEN. I'm gonna be on that website every freaking day, even if they didn't technically confirm daily updates. Everyone HYPE, discuss stages, characters, items, differences between consoles, and of course, whether or not you think the game is REALLY going to be called "Super Smash Bros." with no differentiation besides "on Wii U" or "on Nintendo 3DS."

http://gematsu.com/2013/06/wii-fit-trainer-joins-super-smash-bros

Last week, Gematsu was tipped off about Nintendo’s E3 character reveals for Super Smash Bros. But since we were unable to confirm the validity of our source, we refrained from posting the information. Of the six characters we were told would be revealed, three have been confirmed: Mega Man, Animal Crossing Villager, and Wii Fit Trainer. The three left remaining are Little Mac, Pac-Man, and your Mii.

It's based around a few people shooting the piss who don't really care what happens on it. Still though, when I think of all the characters that could get in in her place, I just scratch my head.

anyway, Mega Man looks pretty good yeah but we won't know how good he is for a while. Either way, I intend on playing him a lot.

My speculation is that the blatant characters who got left out of the reveal are being revamped hardcore. New Yoshi moves, new Luigi moves (Luigi's Mansion), new Peach moves (SPP), etc.

You people keep saying things like, "characters who could have taken the place of Wii Fit Trainer," which is retarded.
Whether Wii Fit Trainer was in or not, it would not change the roster at all, when adding her, it never came to mind, "OH, LET'S ADD WII FIT TRAINER GIRL, sorry guys, Bowser Jr has to be taken off the roster because we have a limit here"

In the end, there's going to be some characters that didn't make the cut that you wanted to make the cut, and some people are gonna blame Wii Fit Trainer for this, which is stupid because she isn't changing anything except adding some more humor in the cast of characters.

It doesn't matter if she takes up a character slot, if they want a character in, they'll put them in. Apparently, Sonic was a last minute decision, and he's in, and fine.
Just because she's in, doesn't mean they're going to not put something else in. If they want it in, and are running out of time, they'll delay the game, which I don't have a problem with.
If they want Bowser Jr, if they want the Swapnote Girl, if they want Zoruark, if they want a stage to be Luigi's Face, they will put them in, Wii Fit Trainer won't change that.

Anyway, I hope there's SOME SORT of Adventure Mode, I liked Subspace Emmissary, though if they bring something like that back, I hope EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER gets a part of the "story," and not leave out any (Jigglypuff, Wolf, Toon Link, Sonic [Kinda]).
Title: Re: Super Smash Bros.
Post by: Zero on June 13, 2013, 05:08:32 AM
I think you're sort of missing the point. No matter the character, putting it in takes resources that could have been used to put in a different character. That's what they're getting at.
Title: Re: Super Smash Bros.
Post by: JrDude on June 13, 2013, 08:28:43 AM
Resources, they still have. The development team.
Basically, by now, they probably have all the characters picked out.
If they're planned on making it in, they're gonna make it in.
If a character doesn't make it in, they were never going to make it into this game. And people are gonna blame Wii Fit Trainer for that.

So, some stuff from developer interviews:
- Tripping is gone
- No touch-based controls/major benefits, as that would be unfair on Wii U (unlike Mario Kart 8, where the gamepad person gets a 3DS-style map)
- The games might not come out at the same time; if one gets complications and the other is done, they'll go ahead and release the finished one
- Example of above: apparently they're having trouble getting Ice Climbers to work right in the 3DS version
- The titles on the website are not placeholders, the games are literally officially called "Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS" and "Super Smash Bros. for Wii U"

Physic/speed-wise, it's somewhere between Melee's faster, heavier style and Brawl's slower, floatier style.

This is exactly where I want it to be, personally.

Resources, they still have. The development team.
Basically, by now, they probably have all the characters picked out.
If they're planned on making it in, they're gonna make it in.
If a character doesn't make it in, they were never going to make it into this game. And people are gonna blame Wii Fit Trainer for that.

Time is a resource. And not everything in finalized from the beginning. Weren't you even the one who pointed out how late Sonic was added into development?

Why are you so contradictory?

jr stfu there actually is a limit of how many characters can fit into a game, and if wii fit trainer was an early decision, then yes it took a slot.

It wouldn't even be a problem if you'd get over the character. It seems like a pretty huge portion of the fanbase is already loving her, and frankly I think she's a hilarious addition to a series that thrives on a colorful and diverse roster. Not to mention, she's technically a much bigger representative than many other characters, given that her TWO games have outsold many other entire series.

Besides, all he's really saying is "what Sakurai says goes, deal with it," and really he's right on that part. Sonic, being 3rd party, was understandably a late addition, but Sakurai's vets at Sora Ltd and partners at Namco Bandai aren't going to accidentally run out of room on someone they think matters. If Sakurai wants Wii Fit Trainer and it causes them to run out of room for Ray 01, it's because Ray was low on the priority list, which means he really was never going to be on at all.

If you hate her a year from now and your favorite character didn't get in, play as your favorite character that DID get in and beat the tar out of her.

Miiverse says I'm your only friend, so apparently I did add you.

Time is a resource. Good to know. Good thing I already knew.
And yes, I did point that out, but it doesn't contradict anything.
"If a character doesn't make it, they were never going to. Other characters doesn't change it."
If anything it adds to my point.
They wanted Sonic in, and they put him in. He was important, he was put in. Even though the game was basically done, they took the time and resources they still had and added Sonic. Which means if they want Random Character Z, they will put them in, regardless of other characters already put into the game.
Just because they added Lucario, it didn't make it so they ran out of room for another character, like Sonic.
They have the technology, they can put anyone they want in, whether Wii Fit Trainer is in or not.
If Dixie Kong isn't a character WITH Wii Fit Trainer being here, she wasn't going to be a character even if Wii Fit Trainer WASN'T there.

Also, if Pokémon Trainer returns, I'm calling the mission mode thing (I forgot what it's called, the last one on Melee was Ganondorf, Giga Bowser, and Mewtwo) where both "Wii Fit Trainer" and "Pokémon Trainer" are involved.

I'm fine with the character. I never really said I wasn't, did I? With that said, I'm still right when I say that time is a resource and that it could have been used for a different character that has more appeal. You and JrDude can't simply dismiss fan criticism over it like it isn't valid just because "What Sakurai says goes". That's effectively taking it up the intercourse ing ass and is beta as all hell. The bottom line is that she is a very unappealing character to many fans, I mean, really, how can you and JrDude not understand how others' are disappointed? The criticism is completely valid. Deal with it.

The type of people that are into Wii Fit aren't into Smash Bros, so its pretty irrelevant that the Wii Fit Trainer is from a series that sold more than many others. These people won't buy the game just because they see her in it, like some MGS/Sonic fans did with Smash Bros.

My main concern regarding this character is really just that I hope it doesn't take away too much resources from the rest of the game. I'm sold just because Mega Man is in to be honest with you and ultimately don't give a poop about Wii Fit Trainer, but you just can't deny that its an odd choice.

So "If a character doesn't make it, they were never going to", doesn't make intercourse ing sense man. They've even thought about taking characters OUT before late into development. Basically, everything is subject to change up until the game goes Gold. Why is that so difficult for you to understand and why do you think you know everything about how Game Development works? You clearly have NO idea at all.

Your logic in that last sentence is so intercourse ing horrible that I can't believe that you're even being serious anymore.

Well, clearly you aren't entirely fine with her. However, as far as thread-relevancy goes, the only person who has expressed active dislike of her, as opposed to confusion or, as you claim, dislike of what she could have been, is Nayr, and he will never be satisfied.

Also, they will not remove her, that's a guarantee, so it's all spilled milk anyway. Let the haters hate, it won't do anyone any good, and quite a large number of people already love her, not because they love her  original appearance, but because of her Smash appearance (ala Jigglypuff, ROB, Game & Watch, Ice Climbers, and for a while arguably Samus, Ness, and Pit).

If you want to keep arguing time as a resource with Jr, I suppose we don't have anything better to do, but there's no point defending the butthurt at this point.

Nah, I think she looks like a fun character to play. The "joke" characters in Smash Bros have always been fun. G&W and ROB are sweet. Why won't she be awesome too?

I'm just being honest with myself. I never wanted her and I'd rather have someone else. I mean, did any of you guys want her? Probably not. She's in the game because Sakurai wanted to surprise everyone. And boy did he succeed.

I'm only defending the 'butthurt' because you guys act like they have no right to be displeased with this. I agree that it shouldn't make the game a dealbreaker but come on, they have a right to dislike the decision.

I really just like the idea of a surprise character. Like last time, everyone and their mothers wanted Diddy Kong, Sonic, Ike, etc. to get in, and they were happy when it happened, but the one announcement that really blew me away was Pokemon Trainer, the character we never knew we wanted. Speaking of which, I really hope he comes back; Charizard, at least, should be always be playable. Although, I definitely want some changes done to him, because Ivy and Squirtle were meh at best, and the fatigue/changing system was brutal towards him.

By the way, this is my background now; I made it based on a similar Brawl one someone made back when Brawl was new. Feel free to take it, or laugh at it; I just like the pretty primary colors.

I don't seem to understand what you're trying to say to me.
Time is a resource. OK. So what? They've made delays before for more time, if they needed to, they would, and likely will, do it again. Sure, it takes a bit more money, but if they believe it will make the game better, and make it's consumer happier, then the more time/money/resource is worth it.
And they should do stuff like that, because Smash Bros for Wii U is pretty much sold out right this second. The only thing they needed to do was show Smash Bros on a trailer for Kid Icarus and everyone would have bought it right then and there while knowing nothing about it, IF it were actually available. The 3DS version however, well that one will never go as well as the Wii U one, but they clearly will want it to go well. I for one have to be sold on it still, because a few unique levels and an extra wisp never sold me on Sonic, so they have to do A LOT for me to want it enough to buy it. Smash just SEEMS like a Console game, and it's bigger and prettier, and I feel like it's not worth the similar spending basically double the price for some harder to handle controls, worse graphics, and the opportunity to play with friends... oh wait, none of my friends I socialize with play video games anymore... Not enough to buy a 3DS anyway.
Maybe if they bundle it, I will get it, but I dunno.

Anyway, I went on a huge tangent.
But time is a resource that they could easily make more of if they think it will make the consumer happier in the long term. In the short term, the consumer will be mad at the delay, but happy with the result (except if the delay is for something dumb like tripping, in which case the consumer is LESS pleased, but I'm 99% positive no one decided to NOT buy the game because they heard you can trip).

Anyway, I never claimed and never will claim to know everything about game developing. It is just my opinion that Sakurai wouldn't take out Mr. Namco (PFHAHA) JUST because they spent a little time on Wii Fit Trainer. If he, or the game development team want the character in, they will take the time, possibly more time, to get them in.

Yes, sometimes characters that were going to be in are canceled, I exaggerated my point. Regardless of this, when characters are given up on, I believe, it wouldn't have changed anything whether or not Wii Fit Trainer was in or not. They would have given up anyway, because the character in question wasn't worth the time and effort. Wii Fit Trainer doesn't make other characters' time or effort worth less than it already is.
"Oh, I spent too much time making Wii Fit Trainer a good character, I'm gonna NOT finish putting Ridley in because his time is no longer worth the effort."
"Oh my gosh Wii Fit Trainer isn't going to be in, so let's make Ridley possible because he's suddenly worth something."

That isn't how a business works though, man. Even Nintendo operates with the intent to consume as little resources as possible. Yeah, they want people to be happy, but come on.

Either way dude we should still all play when the game comes out.

UPDATE: I'm not sure if you guys have mentioned this yet but Sakurai said in an interview that the gameplay should be something like a cross between Brawl/Melee in terms of speed and physics. And looking at the game, it looks a lot faster than Brawl but slower than Melee.

If Platinum got a rep, I'd rather it be Wonder Red Ken from The Wonderful 101. He'd fit better, it's good advertisement, he'd be cool, and depending on what Nintendo and Platinum's relationship on this game is, he might not even be 3rd party.

also i beat it in a few hours and unlocked every character, wasn't nearly as cool as finding special characters in melee

while i liked melee some of them (hi mewtwo) were just plain retarded; most were fine though. I'm actually glad they brought down the number of matches needed to play.

Also I'd prefer as few cuts from the Brawl roster as possible. Honestly, asides from Isaac not being on it, that roster perfectly demonstrates Nintendo (For the most part I guess asides from subjective parts) for a fighting/party game of 35ish characters.

you can't say the same for other characters in the game

pokemon trainer can be any generation, and he technically fits better as a representative than even pikachu, because in most cases you don't actually play as pikachu. you are, in fact, the trainer.

"New Home"?
Are you people STILL Thinking Sonic is going to be Nintendo exclusive?
Sonic is never gonna be Nintendo only. So Nintendo got Sonic Lost World, and I think a second title, but I don't remember if that was confirmed. But regardless, a some of Sonic's biggest games didn't even get on the Nintendo Consoles, like Sonic 06 (Doesn't matter that the game was bad, it was still supposed to be a big great game)... I guess Sonic Rivals... and definitely Sonic Generations. A GREAT game that Nintendo only got the Handheld version of, which I think is blasphemy.
Anyway, tangent aside, SEGA will never be 1st Party Nintendo, and people of the universe need to accept that.
I love Sonic, and I would LOVE IT if he became Nintendo exclusive, but it just won't happen.
Regardless, I am looking forward to Sonic Lost World.

The first place Sonic went when Sega went 3rd party was to the Gamecube, with Adventure 1&2 ports appearing exclusively on it (except for the PC version of Adventure DX), followed by 3 or 4 games and 2 or 3 collections, all of which appeared on Gamecube as well as other consoles. In the meanwhile, he had somewhere around 4 or 5 GBA titles, some of which are his most highly praised games. Next gen, while they missed 06, Generations, the 2 rivals, and that Kinect Riders game, he got 4 exclusives on Wii, 4 exclusives on DS which were all more highly rated than Rivals, and 4 cross-over games with Mario, not counting the handheld versions. This gen, Nintendo ended up getting Generations after all, and now they have Sonic's first next gen title exclusively for Wii U with a different version exclusively for 3DS, another Mario crossover, the multiplatform racer, and one more exclusive Nintendo title that isn't revealed yet, which may or may not be Smash Bros if they don't count that separately.

No, Sonic isn't Nintendo exclusive, DUH, but there's no denying Sega has taken a liking to Nintendo, and saying Nintendo is his "new home" simply means he (and the fans, and the critics) is more comfortable on Nintendo.

The Sonic games on Nintendo platforms outsell their non-Nintendo counterparts by a wide margin with the exception of the European PS2 version of Sonic Heroes. On top of that, SEGA has developed more exclusive Sonic games for Nintendo platforms post-Dreamcast than for any other platform.

Exclusive Sonic games on Nintendo platforms since 2002:

-Sonic Adventure 2 Battle(Recently ported to PSN and XBLA, but you have to purchase DLC to unlock the Gamecube version's content)
-Sonic Adventure DX(Same as above)
-Sonic Advance
-Sonic Advance 2
-Sonic Advance 3
-Sonic Rush
-Sonic Rush Adventure
-Sonic DB
-Sonic and the Secret Rings
-Sonic and the Black Knight
-Sonic Colors
-Sonic Lost World(Wii U)
-Sonic Lost World(3DS)

~

That's a lot of games, JrDude. That list dwarfs the two PSP games and what, Sonic the Hedgehog 06? Sonic Generations? That's FOUR games compared to FOURTEEN. The Wii version of Sonic Unleashed outsold the PS3/360 versions in a 2:1 ratio(even if they played and looked better than their wii counterpart).

He may not be a Nintendo "exclusive", but its clear that SEGA knows where his fanbase is.

Compare Samus and Link with Fox for example. Fox looks practically identical to his Brawl version.

I hope its because the game is early in development

I'm pretty sure even SEGA has publicly stated this to some effect, I'll try to look for it.

Even if that isn't the case though, its quite obvious that Sonic sells more on Nintendo platforms and has more exclusive games on Nintendo platforms.

Some interesting things:

- At the Pokemon X & Y roundtable last week, apparently someone asked if Mewtwo would be in Smash 4; the Pokemon guys basically had "no comment," but Sakurai, who was in the audience, yelled out "we're thinking about it"
- In a separate instance, Sakurai mentioned, in regards to returning characters, that they don't have time to "recreate every character who has appeared in Smash." He said they don't specifically want to cut anyone, but instead are just putting as many characters in as they can before time/resources come out.

While that second point is basically just stating a fact about development, it is interesting that he said specifically that not all old characters can come back. While this could obviously refer to Pichu, Dr. Mario, and the like, it's also not helping people's fears of certain characters not coming back. For example, there's an idea going around that Chrom from FE: Awakening will replace Ike, and Sakurai's attitude toward 3rd parties may imply that Snake and Sonic don't make it back.

Smash Bros is a huge hit. They should take their time with this game instead of rushing it.

It really really seems like they're rushing this game and I don't like that at all.
Title: Re: Super Smash Bros.
Post by: Neerb on June 19, 2013, 07:34:13 PM
I don't think they're rushing it per se.

Sakurai said a while back he wasn't going to be as concerned with roster size this time around and focus on simply tightening what the series already has; for example, they're removing tripping, and he said he would have a bigger team focused on balancing, as opposed to Brawl where he basically did it himself.

Also, I feel like Namco Bandai helping out Sora Ltd. is making things go WAY faster and smoother; I definitely don't think it would look as good graphic-wise without them.

Also also, everyone loved the last rushed Smash and people (internet trolls and tourneyfags) whined about the one they took their time with. Just an observation.

I think they are. What we saw was an early beta build of the game(there were choppy frames, messy textures, and some characters look awful compared to others) and we're looking at a 2014 release date. Sakurai is working himself to death yet again on this game just to make that release window. That's signs of rushing man.

And yeah, you have a point with that last one. I'm not a tourney-goer anymore, but Melee is still my favorite Smash game and Brawl is my least favorite. Melee was rushed. Brawl wasn't, it was even delayed. I remember them saying they weren't concerned with roster size for Brawl either, didn't they say the exact same thing?

Even so, I'd rather them spend some more time on the game. This may be the last Smash Bros. Sakurai works on. You never know with that guy. One interview he says he would like to move on from the series and the next he says he can't stop playing and loves Smash Bros. like its his son. Whataguy.

Apparently this is now actually relevant, as Sakurai just came out and said Melee's competitiveness was an accident due to rushing it, while Brawl's chaos (tripping, more focus on stage hazards, etc.) is the kind of fighting he prefers for the series, as he thinks stripping it down to skill is boring (his exact comparison was a 50-meter dash).

Okay I'm going to reply to this in pieces and I won't do it long because nobody here gives a poop but here I go

-Still better than Melee's roster, and not just because it has more characters. I could easily go on about Melee's roster but let's not go there.

-I was more saying with Mewtwo how the unlockable requirements are ridiculous. Excuse me for not phrasing my post well (Though there was a character that I remembered that had more stupid) "Play 20 combined hours of VS. matches. This is divided among the players; one player requires twenty total hours, two players require ten total hours, three players require six hours and forty minutes, and four players require five hours." which sometimes didn't even work properly, or maybe that was just my copy

to top that off the amount of versus matches required were just insane towards the end. 1.1k versus matches to get the entire melee roster; i barely have that many on my brawl file, and i almost have an 100% file of everything

-wolf is fine let's not talk about my secondary; plus he's more important than falco or krystal, and who cares? poop like darkstalkers gets three characters in mvc3. Frankly I'd want all the supporting characters left, but I'd prefer new series over that.

-not really. ike's still had two games (And two descendants in Awakening. Zing.), Lucas is still the most popular mother protag and has more going for him, and Lucario is fine to rep his gen, especially since to date he's still one of the most popular poke's

-i'll agree with you on PT. I know you didn't think i was going to, but i'll mostly give you that. I think he's unique but that uniqueness could easily be given to another character. honestly I'd rather see it in paper mario

-snake and sonic were? What the hell do you suggest then? Rayman and Chocobo or black mage? (while I would like those more...) Sonic was the most requested character and Snake fits fine for Konami (I'd go with Simon Belmont but he fits too, especially since he started on a Nintendo Console)

also as an aside, there's a problem when it comes to fire emblem and pokemon: they always switch out what poop's popular, what poop's in, and keep having new protagonists. this is why not all the games or gens can get repped really, so while i guess overrepping 1st gen is a problem, having some stability in Fire Emblem isn't. if it was ike/marth/chrom or robin i think it'd work for FE, especially since (this is not just considering the forbidden 7 but other things we know about brawl's development) FE was possibly going to get three characters on a smaller scale

people actually surprisingly like the brawl roster. asides from "mewtwo/isaac" is missing, I don't hear many complaints. The only two clones that are full clones are Toon Link and Ganondorf. Other then that, it's a mostly good roster. Not the best but hey, close.

While it was a known joke and was done before SSB4 was in development, this is interesting.

http://www.ign.com/articles/2009/07/02/professor-layton-joins-smash-bros

Layton's official twitter tweeted in 2009 that he received an "invitation" to the "grand smash tournament" (like villager did) and that he had to fight a "blue robot boy" (mega man), a possessed doll (geno), and a tiny boxer (little mac).

With Mega Man confirmed, Little Mac rumored and the way he was "invited", while it was obviously a joke then it's just really interesting now,

You can give random moves to someone who has the potential to fight.

But you can't force someone who doesn't fight to fight. Bowling balls may not relate to Animal Crossing, but that argument means nothing in terms of getting a Pacifist to fight.

You can give random moves to someone who has the potential to fight.

But you can't force someone who doesn't fight to fight.

ANIMAL CROSSING ISN'T A FIGHTING AND WE ARE GETTING A VILLAGER.

what would layton do

they even joked about it using his twitter that he wouldn't want to do it

edit-dont get me wrong i love layton's games but he'd be a poop character

Dude what Layton would be a top-teir quality character. He wouldn't have to fight with his fists when he has is his extreme critical thinking skills.
Besides Layton is a good sword fighter, fought with other people numerous times with iron poles, and even made and used a machine gun out of a slot machine. He may come off a ~pacifist~ but he can certainly fight when the time comes.

m2k on smashboards along with others are not laughable yo
besides what other smash site would you expect pro's out of
aib
doubles results on the past three years
low tier tournaments when people didn't get good with the other characters

layton would be a good addition but not as much as other third-parties really
geno (or any other mario rpg character) would be fine considering we're on the ninth title and the tenth is already in rumored development; i think it'd be paper mario if anything especially since instead of less popular characters to nintendo they're going for stuff more popular so far but whatever

well of course layton won't be as good of a choice as pac-man (or lloyd, which i want more), rayman, black mage, the returning third-parties, and hell, I'll say Travis Touchdown while I'm at it. its still possible

M2K is an autistic asshat man. He came to a tournament held at my University once. He didn't socialize and when people tried to chat with him he'd get defensive and walk away.

respect lost for him; it's a shame too because in one of his actually recent threads he was actually nice

then again, i will say this to agree with custom, a lot of the competitive players on smashboards have turned into asshats. there's some good ones i talk to but yeah

I'm pretty confident Pac-Man won't make it in, though I'm not positive because Sakurai's weird.
I also DON'T want him in.
Honestly, I think the most deserving 3rd Parties are Sonic and Mega Man, and one of those is already confirmed, and the other was in the previous and PROBABLY will make it into this one along with another. Also maybe a Namco/Bandai character, but not Pac-Man. Probably one of the Tekken characters, as they had a lot of Nintendo themed stuff for their latest game.

An idea that probably won't happen, The Prince from the Katamari series.

Peach has been confirmed! Not really "newcomer," but frankly I like any kind of update that actually showcases something instead of just Sakurai screwing around at the office.

HD Peach looks nice; she's got a cool, colorful cartoony look like Mario and Bowser. I'm really glad they've moved away from Melee's darkness and Brawl's more realistic stuff; you can have nice detailed designs without taking away the spirit and fun.

That's looking too much into it. They can break down the pattern, like for example they showed Luigi because of Dream Team and not New Super Luigi U.

As for other news...

It seems like there's an important leak of the game that is nearly impossible to call real due to the fact nowhere around the world it's physically possible for anybody to have leaks of it. However, do take this with a grain of salt. It might just be the real character they're planning to reveal next, but I highly doubt that.

It's very fake. Looks too much like the Brawlvault Model like Riddler said and on top of that the character portrait is normal Mewtwo, not Mewtwo Y. His eyes are also too huge and his model looks far too tiny. Your portrait changes when your character can switch between two forms in past games so why the intercourse  wouldn't it in the new one?

On top of that the pictures are intentionally taken from poop angles, probably to better fool stupid people. That's what "leaks" like this are all about: Being complete poop holes to your fellow vidya enthusiasts.

It's a final smash that lasts like 15 seconds and you're invulnerable during it, not to mention how you move so fast that there isn't much time for anyone to notice the portrait.

I can see why they'd feel there was no point to adding a portrait for the FS

It's shorter, less feminine, and it actually flows with his attacks (apparently). Sakurai implemented his Shadow Dragon appearance and a few cues of Awakening.

its more like Wolf should be dropped because there are more relevant characters to choose from in Nintendo's IP library.

i mean i can't think of anyone that was excited for Wolf's inclusion in brawl. The sentiment was mostly "ehhh....i hope this isn't the last character".

But it was the last character. Thanks Sakurai.

The Wii U's name is only a problem with the non-hobbyist portion of the gaming consumer base from what I can see.

You seem to be acting like you can only play as the mask OR the skull kid, which doesn't make any sense. Having the masked skull kid, just as we see him there, could be a fine playable character; it would take very little work to give him abilities, whether it's something creative like using the four boss's attacks or just making him a copy of Mewtwo from Melee.

That said, I'm not upset he isn't playable; Zelda series doesn't really need anyone new, although I do wish Toon Link and Ganondorf had more original movesets.

He would be unnecessary as a character, and though MM is a great game and one of my favorites, he's absolutely unnotable as to his worth for being playable. There are way better options, he's not important enough to the series as a whole.
Title: Re: Super Smash Bros.

That's the reason I'm not too disappointed. His game is popular, but it's just one game. Vaati's the next biggest villain after Ganon, and if they WERE to go with a one-off villain, it would likely be Ghirahim for his cult following and recent appearance.

I'm just saying that "what could he even do?" is not really a valid argument for anyone. Whether it's Pac Man in Street Fighter X Tekken, Phoenix Wright in MvC3, Captain Falcon in SSB, Game & Watch in Melee, ROB in Brawl, or Villager and Wii Fit Trainer in the upcoming game, we've long passed the point of challenging developers on who could or couldn't fight, even if they have to completely make stuff up.

Skull Kid as a playable character would be a terrible idea.
The game he was in was cool, but he literally did nothing except steal your Ocarina, Horse, Majora's Mask from Happy Mask Guy, turn you into a Deku, and scream at the sky. He technically did a few other things, but all offscreen, and it mostly consisted of just making Faries explode.
I'm not saying it would be hard to give him a moveset, I'm just saying, he didn't do anything. You never even fight him. You shoot a bubble at him once, and that's the extent of any fighting you do against him.

Neither of those you mentioned were as important, either in their games or in the series' cultural impact. Skull Kid is far from the most important Zelda rep, but making random comparisons like that is not thinking straight.

Are you kidding me? If that's how you feel, it is baffling how you don't consider the rest of the characters used before to be "forced". Skull kid would've been fine, even if there are better choices out there.

And Rob if that is your actual reasoning as to why Skull Kid would be a terrible character then I'm afraid you are going to have to do better. It's crude at best.

Don't be ridiculous; R.O.B., Ice Climbers, Pit, and Lucas were all added because of their significant cultural impact and popularity among the Nintendo fanbase, nothing forced about it. Heck, if Pichu and Dr. Mario hadn't been added in Melee, there would have been riots in the streets! /sarcasm

I'm talking gameplay mechanics, not cultural importance towards the Zelda series. It's just silly just to throw someone in the mix who mechanically wouldn't fit or work. Little Mac from Punch-Out would be a better fit as a mechanically sound character then an assist trophy like he was in Brawl.

I just don't see Skull Kid having a decent moveset. Really don't. Yeah a boxer wouldn't be creative and very simple with jabs, uppercuts, etc. but it'd make sense.

Little Mac borrowing moves from his opponents would make more sense than Skull Kid borrowing moves from Majora (which would make him asininely overpowered) or the other bosses (which still would be too much.)
Skull Kid is literally the perfect fit for an assist trophy. I'm kind of hoping he summons the moon to crash down, although I suppose that would mean Great Bay doesn't return.

Little Mac on the other hand...
His regular punches, jabs, his star uppercut. Bald Bull's Charge, Bear Hugger's Bear Hug attack, Great Tiger's teleportation/double image. There's a lot to choose from.

Your logic is absolutely intercourse ed. Skull Kid borrowing moves from a mask he is wearing and being possessed by does not make less sense than a Boxer stealing techs from other boxers. If anything, the latter makes less sense because none of those techs are actually Little Macs. Skull Kid being possessed by Majora is the entire point of Skull Kid w/Majora, so the notion that all of his powers being from the mask is a detriment to the hypothetical moveset is absolutely idiotic. It's the entire point of the character. Duh.

It's also like you're completely unaware that most smash characters had movesets or moves made for them on the spot because they never fought outside of the series.

I'm all for Little Mac, but you two aren't really thinking clearly. I'm sensing some intense bias here.

Skull Kid being a character is far from impossible. They could literally do whatever they want, even borrowing moves from bosses in that game... which wouldn't be much because most of them were doing basically nothing.
First Boss, sure, possible.
Second Boss is a bull that runs and poops bombs and pisses electricity.
3rd is a Fish that jumps out of the water, eats you in the water, and sometimes makes babies.
4th was 2 giant centipedes flying around with no actual attacks.
There's nothing to steal from 75%, and even the one they could potentially steal from would be a stretch.
Using stuff the Mask can do would definitely be possible, but then that would take the feel away from it being Skull Kid.
They could easily make things up. Moveset is no problem, it's just his lack of appearance.
Girahim, he becomes your rival you fight often, so it would make sense.
Skull Kid gets hit by a bubble and loses.
There's nothing worthy of Skull Kid to give him enough importance.
And I know there are several characters in the game who aren't important, but if you're going to add a FIFTH character from a series, they pretty darn well be important.

It is genuinely shocking how you guys are unable to grasp the concept of Skull Kid and the Mask being a single character. Seriously, I cannot mentally grasp how it is even possible that you guys don't get this.

In Marvel vs Capcom 2, you don't play as Eddie Brock, and you don't play as the symbiote, you play as Venom. This is the same thing. I mean, holy crap guys, we see Skull Kid wearing it and using its powers in the game itself and now we have a Smash Bros screen shot of what he will look like. Eight-year-olds can grasp this concept. Just because you understand it, doesn't mean only 8 year olds can understand it.
And I can understand it easily, it just wouldn't seem like Skull Kid to me.
If they used a lot of Majora's Moves, to me I would think, "why not just make Majora the character, rather than Skull Kid?"
Though, then again, that would be a worse idea due to the fact that Majora is less iconic than Skull Kid with Majora's Mask overall.

It could be an Assist Trophy, but it's actually a guardian armor thing from Spirit Tracks. In that game, Zelda gains the power to possess them, and you control them.

That's the main reason I'm confused about it. They could have changed one of Zelda's attacks, but I don't know why; I mean, it's not like they haven't changed characters' moves before, but what would it replace? It could be a new Down B and Shiek is now the "fifth" character to match Rosalina for the Mario series, but that would be a really heavy change to her character (although I'm sure "pros" will love it). Of course, then we have two Links AND two Zeldas; maybe Shiek will become Impa in Skyward Sword form? I'm just shooting in the dark now, though.
Title: Re: Super Smash Bros.

I kinda doubt it's one of her attacks... though I could be wrong. It seems weird that one of her attacks would be "SUMMON GIANT MONSTER FOR 1 SECOND"
Maybe it's her new Final Smash?
Or maybe it's a new item, like, Related Assist Trophy, where it's automatically something that relates to you that you help control... or something... I'm also shooting in the dark.

Um, Peach, Dedede, Olimar, Rosalina, Villager, and Mega Man already have summoning moves; just because Zelda's would be bigger doesn't mean it wouldn't work.

Also, why a related assist trophy? All of the screen caps are fixed for our amusement; if it's an AT, there's nothing indicating that it's any more important than a regular AT, it's just that they made it look like Zelda's commanding it to make the screenshot more interesting and reveal a new AT.

And I hope it's not a new FS; Light Arrow for Zelda was already one of the most sensible, fitting FS in the game.

So what is this game gonna be like on the 3DS? What's the console comparison?

From what I can tell:
- Graphical differences, obviously (though 3DS screens don't look bad)
- 3DS version has adjustable thickness outlines for characters to more easily see them on the tiny screen
- Both games will have the same characters, but different stages: Wii U stages are based on console games while 3DS stages are based on handheld games
- No cross-play, but they said there may be some sort of connectivity incentive; it was suggested that 3DS could somehow have customization and that you could transfer this to your console version, but we haven't seen/heard any details
- Release dates may be different; if Sakurai has his way, he intends to ship each one as soon as it's done, not hold one back while they finish the other

Shiek isn't considered a Zelda, Neerb. She is a completely different character.

It baffles me why you compare Shiek to Toon Link.

Not even, dude. Shiek plays nothing like Zelda. Toon Link is practically identical to Link.

Having Shiek and Zelda seperate doesn't mean we now have "two Zeldas".

Stop being stupid.

But you're the one going off-point. I thought it was pretty obvious I was referring to there being two of the same character, not two of the same style fighter. There would be "two Zeldas" because Shiek is Zelda. It's just like how Zero Suit Samus being a separate character choice from Samus would be weird, or how pointlessly random Dr. Mario was (Sakurai literally said he just put him there because Dr. Mario is one of his favorite games, like Ice Climbers and Kid Icarus).

Of course, I guess technically if Shiek was permanently separated, she would just be "OoT Zelda" while regular Zelda is "TP Zelda," like how the Links are TP Link and TWW/PH Link.

It'll be the most literal version of a "portable version." I'll play the Wii U one at home, but I'll play the heck out of the 3DS when I'm out of the house.

Smash Bros. Anywhere. Anytime.

Heck, maybe the 3DS one will be better.

I'm not going off point. I'm pointing out how silly it is to compare Shiek to Toon Link. The Zero Suit Samus comparison you JUST made actually makes more sense though.

Updates return to ring in the new year with the confirmation of Trophies. Like the stages, the 3DS will have trophies mostly from handheld games and the Wii U will have trophies mostly from console games, and the characters that overlap may have different models on each game. The first one they showed was a 3DS trophy of Saria from Ocarina of Time 3D.

Gonna respond to this like I did everything in Brawl when they were announcing characters then:
No, the chances haven't dropped. You have no idea what Sakurai or his development team are thinking, you cannot predict the chances of anything. You can have an opinion on who you think will be in or out, but you do not know the "chances" a character has of getting in.

That said, I don't personally think Mewtwo will be in after this, but I do still see it as a possibility. With Lucario, they only mentioned him having increased aura power, they didn't mention a Mega-Evolution. I wouldn't be surprised if they included Mega-Mewtwo.

Also I'm disappointed they kept him in - I mean, the more the merrier, but Lucario was poop to begin with and is so irrelevant already.

Not like it matters, with the clone engine for Brawl working on my wii now, I'm just playing the poop out of hacked brawl lol

Title: Re: Super Smash Bros.

Lucario was time-specific filler. He is by far the least important playable character in the Smash Bros franchise. He is absolutely irrelevant as a series rep except for that one movie he was in 8 years ago, and every other rep of his franchise already in Smash is more important (even Pichu and Jiggs were more culturally significant when they were added, and now Jiggs is a Smash staple anyway).

Furthermore, Lucario's similarities to Mewtwo meant Mewtwo may not return this time, which is a real downer because Mewtwo has not only ALWAYS been more significant than Lucario (original OP legendary, the closest thing they have to a villain rep, more movies, etc.), but has become even more relevant lately with his new movie and his two Mega forms. Plus I think Mewtwo's cooler, and he's a more unique fighter imo (though he could use some buffs; Project M did a nice job there). And for those saying "Mewtwo isn't out just because Lucario is in:" while that is TECHNICALLY true, there is a precedent for Mewtwo getting edged out by Lucario, given that that's EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED LAST TIME. Lucario was added in Brawl first, so Mewtwo was given lower priority, and when they ran out of space/time, Mewtwo lost out.

Sadly, now that Lucario will have been in TWO Smash Bros, he has ascended from his mediocre spot in his own franchise and has become a true fighter, a character that exists for the game rather than for the crossover appeal, and his appearance in future titles will be expected as if he were Zelda or Bowser.

Being talking bipedal blue-ish mammalian Pokemon with mystic powers and Mega forms who gained popularity through movies could also be a factor, as is the fact that Sakurai said he never "cuts" characters, he just keeps adding until he can't any more, meaning Brawl's inclusion of Lucario and absence of Mewtwo LITERALLY meant Lucario pushed Mewtwo off the roster, even if it was indirectly. Sakurai thinks Lucario is a higher priority than Mewtwo, there can only be so many characters, and it's not like Zelda or Yoshi will get pushed out.

Heck, even look at their differences. It's magic vs science, new vs old, Fighting vs Psychic, a furry dog vs a hairless cat. It's like they're meant to be competing.

The "anymore" part is irrelevant is my point. Pichu and Jigglypuff both played way larger roles than Lucario. To the series as a whole they're more important. They're not relevant anymore, but neither is Lucario and his role is minor.
Title: Re: Super Smash Bros.
Post by: Neerb on February 04, 2014, 06:06:40 AM
So Sakurai is putting way more emphasis on Lucario's aura powers this time in order to make him more unique, which is good (and perhaps why he added Lucario already). The aura power is a lot stronger when he's at high damage, and the fully charged full-aura Aura Sphere attack is colossal.

Additionally, Lucario's Extreme Speed is now aura-based, which is pretty cool. He shoots aura out of his hands to propel himself and guide his flight path Iron Man-style, which looks great in today's screenshot, and when you have higher aura power the move will actually let you fly farther.

The statement was Lucario being more relevant than Pichu and Jigglypuff, not more important. I doubt the anime had any impact on Lucario's inclusion. Lucario is a fan favorite pokemon, which is why he is still being pushed. If he wasn't, then he would have slowly faded to obscurity like the way Zoroark is going now.

Waluigi is awesome. He's literally the best filler character that could ever exist. Why? He has nothing to go off of. They can do WHATEVER the intercourse  they want with him. Want to swim in the sky? Waluigi can do it. Want Doctor Octopus arms? Waluigi can do it. Want a whip? Waluigi. Want him to spin around like a Tornado? Sure. Evil gleam in his eye? Let's do it.

I don't think Wario having a counterpart is an inherently bad idea, but Waluigi is really uninspired and annoying, and doesn't deserve to be made a definitive part of the Smash Bros roster or any important Mario/Wario game for that matter.

Tomorrow at 6pm EST is a special Nintendo Direct that is ENTIRELY about Smash Bros.

GET. PUMPED.

We'll probably see tons of new footage (considering how rarely we get any), new characters and stages, perhaps even a release date or box art!

The REALLY crazy thing though is that this strange Smash-centric Direct is April 8, the EXACT DAY that GameStop claimed the game would come out (http://wiiudaily.com/2013/11/gamestop-hints-at-super-smash-bros-u-release-date/) back in November!! So, I'm am now crazy paranoid that we're gonna get Saturned. Needless to say I will be going to GameStop tomorrow BEFORE the Direct just in case.

SUMMARY OF THE BALLS-TO-WALLS AWESOMENESS:

- Release Date: Summer for 3DS, Winter for Wii U

- Three online modes: Friends Only, For Fun, and For Glory. For Fun is random stages with strangers, For Glory is Final Destination only, no items.

- Most stages will have a Final Destination version, so competitive play now at least has environmental changes

- A new 3DS-exclusive mode similar to Kirby Air Ride's City Trial: 4 players spend 5 minutes running around a huge map fighting baddies and gaining power-ups, then use their power-ups in a free-for-all fight

- Some stages have bosses that appear and fight everyone, including Yellow Devil for Wily's Castle and Ridley (RIP metroid fans) for the Pyrosphere

- Tons of new items, Assist Trophies, Pokemon that I don't perfectly remember

- Some new stages, including a massive Palutena's Temple stage on Wii U

- CUSTOMIZABLE MOVESETS!! Details weren't given, but they showed Mario shooting different kinds of fireballs and Kirby having ice breath

- Pit's Final Smash is now his Sacred Treasures (I hope that means Palutena is coming soon...)

- Lucario's Final Smash makes him Mega Lucario, with his Aura power instantly maxing (which is a way bigger deal in this game than it was in Brawl)

- Kirby's Final Smash is now his Ultra Sword from Return to Dreamland

- Olimar is now limited to 3 Pikmin at a time, but they always come up in a specific order. His new Up B has two Winged Pikmin carry him, but they go slower and lower if he is carrying more Pikmin with him.

- Dedede's Side B now only throws Gordos, not Waddle Dees. Knowing Sakurai, I'm betting this is because Waddle Dee will be the fourth playable Kirby character, complete with blue bandanna and spear.

- Characters no longer turn into each other, which means...

- Zelda and Shiek are independent characters. Zelda's Down B summons a Phantom Armor, Shiek's Down B is a jump kick, and Shiek's Side B is now a grenade instead of a whip

- Zero Suit Samus is now her own character. She has an awesome visual upgrade, jet boots, and a significant power boost

- Yoshi finally confirmed! He walks upright now instead of leaning forward, like what they did to Bowser. I like it.

- CHARIZARD JOINS THE BATTLE. He is now his own character and his final smash turns him into Mega Charizard X

- GRENINJA JOINS THE BATTLE AND NO THIS IS NOT A FREAKING JOKE OH MY GOSH WHY SAKURAI (he actually does look awesome, though)

He, Jiggs, Ness and Luigi are the Secret Four. They're kept secret every time even though we all know they'll be there. Luigi only showed up as early as he did because it happened to be the one and only ever "Year of Luigi."

It's like how everyone's been flipping out over Yoshi even though he's absolutely in; he's one of the Original Eight, so we expected to see him a lot early. Apparently the only reason he didn't show up earlier was because they hadn't quite finished redesigning him to walk upright.

It's competitive mode. No Items, FD only. Personally, I think it's a really clever move on their part. They even made Final Destination versions of other stages so you could have multiple environments, like in most other 2D fighters.

Final Destination isn't the most balanced stage in the game competitive wise. That title belongs to Battlefield. Characters need platforms to get away from bad match ups. FD only favors certain types of characters, whereas Battlefield can work for pretty much everyone. Its nice that they decided to split the play choices, I just think it could have been done better.

Yo this.

Falcon for example is a lot easier to play on BF than FD. Platforms=Set ups. Honestly I don't understand why they wouldn't have both BF and FD. When I think of competitive Smash I think of those two maps and Pokémon Stadium 1.

That's why her heels are jets, it's not why they're so impractically tall it looks like she's taking on Bayonetta in a heel fetish contest. Team Ninja is all about the sexy sexism in their Dead or Alive series, and they brought that over to Other M by making ZSS have ridiculous heels and a larger bust. Smash is simply taking inspiration from her most recent appearance, though they at least made her look way cooler.

Personally, I can look past it, but I can see where people are coming from. It's not that it's "feminine," it's that it's sexist. Samus crawls through caves and runs through exploding space stations, it makes NO sense whatsoever for her to have to do it in 4-inch heels, not to mention the boob job has zero justification outside of the programmer wanting her to have bigger boobs. By needlessly making a female character "sexy," particularly one who got famous defying traditional gender roles, it could be understood that Ninja/Nintendo thinks a woman needs to be sexy to be useful. I'm not saying they ARE saying that, but it's not unreasonable to say it can be interpreted that way.

Everyone called Zelda's back when she was first announced. I think it's awesome; she needed some serious buffing, and this massive projectile/shield will do well. Plus, I like when rulers have moves that use their soldiers. I'm actually disappointed Dedede doesn't throw Waddle Dees/Doos just for that reason.

Shiek's down special being a ninja jump/kick is... useful, I guess. I'm more curious about her side special; they changed it from the chain whip to a grenade, which I think will give her a good power boost, though I will miss the chain on principle (hopefully she keeps it as a tether grab).

Not sure what changes Charizard or ZSS have yet, except that ZSS has a more reliable recover move with her jets now. I wonder if they'll keep Charizard's Rock Smash... it never really made sense, as fun of a move as it was.

Also, I question how the Final Smashes will be affected. What boosts does Mega Charizard X get? What will Sheik and ZSS do now?

No, obstacles are fine. Bosses being reduced to just being obstacles is stupid. They're supposed to be a challenge that is presented when you've shown significant progress in a game, not a stage design that's a nuisance while you battle OTHER people.

Because it shows in the update that they're basically Palkia and Dialga in Brawl, but can be killed and once they appear, they are pretty much always there. And once killed, it hurts your opponents nearby.

Fake.

Ice Climbers in japanese is just "Ice Climber". Some other people have pointed out that the japanese is lazy in general, but I don't know moon speak so I can't comment on much more regarding that.

On top of that, look at Wario's portrait. It's just his running-pivot frame from Brawl. You'd think he'd stay in his Warioware costume as well, but that remains to be seen so who knows.

To further seal the nail in the coffin, Chrom's portrait is taken from concept art.

~

With that said, it is easily the most appealing fake I have ever seen. Kudos to whoever made it.
Title: Re: Super Smash Bros.

It looks good, but at the same time terrible.
The size difference on the character portraits is horrendous. Like, Purin is SLIGHTLY zoomed in on, and Kirby has his full picture? Bowser looks small, and Rosalina looks big?
And Super Smash Bros has always done a super close up to the faces, but to a point to where all the faces are generally the same size, and nothing is like, bigger than the other in the selection portrait.
It's a nice attempt, but they obviously don't notice key things that all the official selections have in common.

EDIT: Well, I see what they were trying to go for, they made every character selection image basically the same size as on the website's official ones, and attempted that with their edit characters. On the website it looks fine, on a screen where everything is smaller, it looks bad.

Oh yeah, I think someone brought it up before, but the Smash Bros 6 thing.
I have a hope that it's basically a Subspace Emissary thing that's not gonna be like regular Smash Bros, but is going to be similar to Subspace of Brawl. Separated to create more memory, and possibly a completely different play style, or maybe the exact same play style.
Though I don't have a high expectation, I have high hopes that this is going to be the thing.

Conspiracy time.

This here is from the Smash Bros Direct web page.

Notice the character banner on the bottom. Everyone is inside their little rectangles, except for one: Pikachu. Seems kinda random, except that when the Direct finally aired, only one "new" character was revealed: Greninja, a character from the same series as Pikachu.

Now, look at this. This is the new banner of the official Super Smash Bros Facebook page.

Notice anything? Not only is Pikachu once again outside his border, but this time Kirby and Sonic are too, and neither of them were outside their borders last time.

Now, this could all just be random; some designer spontaneously decided to make some characters outside their frames for no reason. However, it's also entirely possible that this is being done purposefully as a hint. Could we in fact be seeing a new Pokemon, Kirby, and even Sonic (or general third-party) characters this E3?

It occurs to me that back in the Dojo, when Brawl was coming out, they only revealed the starter characters.

All the unlockable characters, including veterans, weren't revealed on the website until after the game was already out in Japan, and even then they were revealed as slowly as ever and with question marks covering them to avoid spoilers.

Sooo, it's possible we'll only get a couple more characters on this website, then have the roster almost double in the actual game.

Although, the fact that five Mario characters, four Pokemon, and two Fire Emblem characters are already revealed could disprove this idea, since it's doubtful they'd ALL be available from the get-go.

This is the most intercourse ing bizarre train of conspiracy logic.

Soooooooooooooo how 'bout that E3?

Mii Fighters, Palutena, and PAC-MAN!!!!!!!!!!

Good stuff. Miis and Pac-Man both look way more awesome than I thought they would, and I was always on the Palutena train.

Also, Game & Watch is basically confirmed from the Pac-Man trailer, not that we didn't know he'd come back anyway.

And did anyone watch that tournament? That was pretty fun.

tournament was mostly bullpoop though i'm glad most people seemed to have fun with it

I am very pleased that they used Pac-Land/World Pac-Man and not the godawful new version. His moveset looks pretty fun.

If you had told 11 year old me that Sonic, Mario, Mega Man, and Pac-Man would all be in the same game I would have called you a liar. Pretty neat.t

It's a customizable moveset. The video showed 13 moves: the first twelve are divided into your 4 specials, and the last one is her Final Smash.

So yeah, they look like pretty crazy moves, but she can only have 4 at a time.

Heck, ALL characters in the game are going to have 12 potential special moves, but only Palutena and the Miis get 12 unique moves, while everyone else gets slight variations (example: Mario has regular bouncing fireball, straightshooting fastball, and giant slow fire orb).

They're $10-$15 each. If they all cost $10, a full set of Smash ones would cost almost $150. And I'm assuming what they showed is all that they're making.

Nah, definitely part of Robin's Final Smash, based on the video. Robin specifically calls out to him and the two of them circle around the target doing a ton of magic and sword combos.

Also, on today's update, Sakurai specifies that Lucina IS a Marth clone, but she has equal hits on her whole sword, as opposed to Marth who is famous for his sword's tip being a sweet spot. I've also heard she has Marth's old air game while new Marth is more grounded, which would line up with what people criticized about Marth at E3.
Title: Re: Super Smash Bros.
Post by: Zero on July 16, 2014, 06:21:47 PM
A grounded Marth?

Lame. Guess I'll be playing Project M for a fun Marth. I don't like it when my mains are intercourse ed with too much. They intercourse ed up Falcon in Brawl and I still haven't forgiven them for that.

Lucina is Marth minus.

http://www.gonintendo.com/s/233268-sakurai-talks-lucina-s-inclusion-in-smash-bros-wii-u-3ds-why-chrom-didn-t-make-the-cut

Her speed/strength/attacks are all about the same. Her difference seems to only be her sword.

Basically, if you're good with Marth there is no reason to use her.

What?

Uses his staff/sniper instead of a bow, has a different Down Special (I think) He's a dumb clone who's a bit stronger/slower.

Also confirmed via broken street date:
- Duck Hunt (dog with duck riding on his back)
- Dr. Mario (has the old Tornado Down Special)
- Ganondorf
- Wario

Leak roster confirmed as full roster.

Also, a few "hidden" characters: Olimar has an Alph skin, and Bowser Jr has the 7 koopa kids. And these aren't skins in the sense that they're simple recolors ala Peach-Daisy, I mean they completely change their appearance and even their name, both on the select screen and when the announcer calls them.

Other notable things:
- Duck Hunt has different dog breed colors, like dalmatian, as well as one that makes the dog brown and the duck red, which I absolutely will be interpreting as Banjo-Kazooie 2.0
- Dark Pit has the same moves as Pit, albeit with slight stat changes, except for his final smash; Pit's final smash equips the 3 sacred treasures and launches a barrage of lasers, while Dark Pit whips out his trusty staff/sniper and launches a single shot similar to Zelda/Sheik's light arrow
- Dr. Mario has his old Mario Tornado down special, making him not ENTIRELY a Mario clone
- Ganondorf is the same, sadly
- Ness has PK Freeze as a custom neutral special; this may imply we can "recreate" the cut clones (Lucas, Wolf, non-returning Melee clones) via custom moves
- Everyone's unlocked REALLY easily; you either beat Classic over and over with different characters, or play Vs Mode a measly 150 times
- ROB and Dedede have new Final Smashes; ROB turns into a cannon and launches a laser blast, while Dedede sucks enemies toward him, bats them away with his hammer, then throws a bomb at them
- Isaac of Golden Sun and Ray of Custom Robo are not playable OR ATs like they were in Brawl WHY SAKURAI WHY DO YOU DO THESE THINGS

I went to the midnight launch tournament. The tournament was a complete intercourse ing letdown. They took an hour to set up consoles and started 30 minutes late to boot so they forced us all to play free for alls in a tournament divided into 3 sub-tournaments. 64, Melee, and Brawl. Brawl ended up getting replaced by project m because the manager grabbed the wrong wii and didn't have the characters unlocked.

you could only enter 1 sub tournament and then the winner of each plays in a FFA with the other 2 "champions" on each platform and whoever wins 2/3 wins the tournament.

I dominated the Melee tournament and won it. No one could touch my Shiek or Falcon. I did not lose a single stock until the FFA rounds started and I got double teamed hard in the finals for the main tournament, but still managed to scratch out a win on the N64 despite my opponents gunning for me.

I lost. Barely. The free copy of the game was as good as mine, but because of bullpoop I was denied it. First time I ever just, well, got mad about something like this. I left without picking up the posters I won or for the game to release. Shook everyones hands, and then told the manager he was a intercourse face for making the FFA matches happen and left.

So I didn't get my copy of the game because of some stupid gamestop tournament. Honestly I don't even really want it right now. I'll get it later.

But the moral of the story: Fucking gamestop

Will there be anyone on the planet who plays the Wii U version using the 3DS as a controller? That would be like playing Brawl with a Wii Remote and Nunchuk.

It'll probably only be used as a last resort to squeeze in a fourth player or something. I have plenty of controllers though, so I probably won't even bother with it.

Ganondorf, Cpt. Falcon, Dr. Mario, Lucina, PIkachu, and Pac-Man are the only characters I can bare playing on the 3DS. Even then, it's rough and awkward.

I haven't been up on all the news for this game, so the level choices in the 3DS one worried me for the WiiU version. But I remembered all the announced levels that weren't in the 3DS version so that's something.
All in all I regret not just waiting for the end of November.

I could speculate, but I don't think anyone really knows. The obvious choice is past characters who have been removed (I really wouldn't be surprised to see Ice Climbers dlc).

So I finally got the game, and I suck with a character I was most excited for, Little Mac. Though I guess only on the Boss thing on Classic Mode. I was Intensity 7, and I lost to that thing so many times I got to intensity 3... I made it through the rest of the stuff with little to no problem, but freakin Master Crap thing kept killing me.

little mac in the air is a piece of poop and because of that, I can't say I would ever play him against characters like Shiek that excel in the air.

you literally just have to upthrow him and air game him until you win. Its a really easy and boring match up even with really skilled little macs. Yeah, they're great on the ground but really, I play Shiek and Mega Man so it is no problem to get these guys in the air and play with them like they're a chew toy.

would be really nice if for glory wasn't so unplayable

i get locked into strings left and right but my characters take 4 seconds to act after I make an input. anywhere i go online says "WELL OBVIOUSLY YOU SUCK ASS AT SMASH BROS :B" or, and I love this one "THEYRE JUST ADJUSTING BETTER TO THE LAG THAN YOU ARE!!!". That last point makes no intercourse ing sense in this case because they are literally throwing out moves one after another while i cannot get moves to come out within 4 seconds of each other on average.

I can play USFIV and MVC3 and MVC Origins and Guilty Gear and Skullgirls all intercourse ing fine with only modest hiccups and some slight input lag on a wireless connection, but For Glory is unplayable on a wired connection, even when I bug my net provider and they get me back up to 10mbps.

thanks mashed potato samurai. i have the lan adapter but obviously it didn't do poop. luckily i can still play in with friends mode though.

i'm intercourse ing mad that Nintendo still can't get this poop right

what is more annoying is how said scalpers demand what they do be justified. They think they're fulfilling a need while getting money for it but all they're doing is depleting the supply available for normal retail. They're all crooked as intercourse  but think they aren't and frankly its hilarious. All over little toys that aren't even made that well.

I'm glad I got my Link for the Hyrule Warriors DLC and Smash and backed out of this poop wholeheartedly after that. I'd love a Mega Man one and a Captain Falcon one if I find the extra cash but like intercourse  I'm paying more than normal retail for them.

It's funny how people are complaining about Corrin or whatever when he looks so unlike every other Smash character as well as every other FE character. He turns into a dragon thing. Pretty different.

Bayonetta is fun.  She's very acrobatic and combo heavy and translates great into the combat.
