Title: E3 announcing the New Microsoft Concept console
Post by: Chris8492 on January 06, 2012, 03:00:46 PM
Ok, so I was on FB today and then it went FB official today on one of the top fan groups on the site.

"The rumours for E3 are starting to heat up. This year, the big "theory" is that at least Microsoft will be announcing their next console."

They remodeled the 360, what, like a little over a year ago? And  came out with the slim not too long ago and now this? Isn't that a bit too soon or is it just pure crazy fanboism making this misleading?

Discuss.

It's not that surprising considering a few things:

1. The WiiU is going to come out this year (supposedly), and you don't want to fall to behind when it comes to a new console. Microsoft doesn't have such a huge tech advantage over the WiiU as the PS3 does in terms of horsepower and formatting. While the 360 may still be ok in terms of tech, with the WiiU coming out it may turn into the weakest system overnight (depending on what Nintendo does with it)

2. The 360 came out in 2005, and it's currently 2012. That's actually a bit longer than the usual console cycle so all things considered the 360 has lasted quite a long time. Not surprising something is in the pipe for moderately soon.

3. Install base is probably at the highest it'll be. Let's be honest here, if you want a 360 but haven't at this point, it's unlikely I think you'll ever get one considering it's been six years since it launched in the fall of 2005. Time to get the gears rolling on the next big electronic toy the early adopters can sink their teeth into.

Yeah it has been a while since the initial first release of the 360, and yeah it would probably end up being beat by the new Gen Nintendo WiiU. Basically they're predicting the release of the new Console from microsoft somewhere near 2013 possibly, if not then, it'll be in 2013. If you have noticed, their ad campaigning for the newly remade 360 has dropped a bit as well. I figured they would've been advertising it more during christmas. I only saw mainly the kinect and after the holidays, I havent seen an ad for Xbox or Kinect.

If you ever watch the movie Warrior, during most of the tournament matches there's Xbox 720 ads on the walls. In fact, that movie was intercourse ing amazing. Watch it regardless.

Also, both Sony and Microsoft are announcing their new systems at E3.

If they actually call it Xbox 720, I'll be annoyed.

Well in the first place, its probably going to be named something different rather than doubling 360 into 720.

They'll more than likely keep the Xbox name. They lack the balls that Nintendo has as far as naming consoles goes. Granted, in the case of the Game Boy to DS transition, Nintendo had an overwhelming majority share of the handheld market. Success was practically guaranteed.

Though if they did change the brand name, as long as they advertised it as a successor, it'd probably succeed. This is all based off the assumption that changing brand names is generally bad and poop but I'm assuming this because Microsoft and Sony in particular seem to enjoy playing it safe(not to mention hundreds of other non-video game industry companies).

I've been lagging behind lately with video game news--new console news, anyway. I'm pretty much a Microsoft fanboy, with Nintendo coming in a close second place (if not being equal). I really need to do my research like I used to. In any case, I'm definitely curious about this new Xbox thing and how it shapes up next to the WiiU.

Nintendo seems to be playing it safe with Wii U and 3DS.
