Title: Um..hello.
Post by: Transient Link on September 21, 2010, 07:01:42 PM
Hey its Marl here, its been a long time since I last visited this forum. I was just wondering how things were going with you guys and was planning on coming back to stay for awhile. (P.S. Can someone direct me on how to request a username change?)

You can change you name in your profile settings now. And welcome back. Also we are semi dead, maybe. But still alive.

Alright, thank you. I figure I will leave the username for a few days so that everyone knows I'm back, then change it.

Thank you. Has much changed in my near 2 year absence?

Marluxia came back? I didn't see this coming.

Well, welcome back to NSFCD, currently three years old with changes soon to come!

Ah well I left because I was too hotheaded. I like going with the flow now. And writing articles and such on my favorite game series (Zelda in-particular). However I dunno, I find myself back here, hoping to find some more good discussions and debates to be had. I am a member of Zelda Universe forums now, and there is a theorizing board there. In that place I am most welcome and I can't get enough of all of the different controversies. And thats just one game series!!! I hope to find a similar experience here.

Also what has changed? (Other than Mack's rise through the ranks, he got me to come back actually)

Ooh, Zelda discussion. That's a subject I haven't seen on here too much, which is quite a shame. Perhaps you could get some discussion going, what with Skyward Sword's relatively recent reveal.

But aside from some board revamps, rank changes, staff promotions/demotions, and members coming and going, not much has changed. We're actually about to go through a board overhaul in a few days, I think.

Board overhaul? What do you mean? And yeah I was shocked to not see a Zelda board!!! Just Nintendo, and no Skyward Sword thread at all!!

Board overhaul meaning the boards changed. Inactive boards removed (Zelda board happens YEARS ago), and replacement boards in the removed boards' place.

But about that Skyward Sword thread, it seems that you didn't look enough (http://nsfcd.com/index.php?topic=36241.0).

Boards are being combined en masse. One board for all console games (with a sub-board for Pokemon I believe), one for handhelds, and one for PC as well as Power On (to be renamed) and a board of the month (usually whatever is new in gaming at the time).

But hey, welcome back!

But then how are we like Nsider if we don't even have a Nintendo board all for itself...Most troubling..

I noticed it, but look the original post is from E3!! It doesn't give any clearcut facts without reading the pages and pages of posts. There is nothing organized!! Its so hard to look at.

We're not really much of an Nsider clone anymore, to be honest. However, we're doing some changes this coming week(s), and it'll be interesting.

So what definition of forum are we then? Just general gaming? Any particular reason why we are so dead though? Perhaps we should turn this place into a full website. Like Zelda Universe. I say this because they have a lot of stuff outside of the forums that gets visitors.

Well, we know have Tidal Wiki, NFES, and Arcade. We also have Area 6.

They do game guides, articles about things in the Zelda Universe (Like Skyward Sword) so here you could do articles about popular titles in gaming.

We leave that for one of the sites we host. That's 8th-Circuit.com, which you should check out. Especially if you're interested in writing.

Anyways, howdy again ol pal. As has been noted, we're differentiating more and more from NSider as we age, while NSider2 is getting closer and closer to the old forum (meaning, the staff is more and more distant).

We're just generalizing while other parts of our site seek to do more specific things. Tidal is going to be an archive of sorts, Area 6 for gaming (more or less), 8th-Circuit for articles, and our affiliates for...well whatever they like.

As for your name, it's Profile -> Account Related Settings. Not going back to the link moniker are you?

You could say I'm going forward with a different Link moniker. And really now? I didn't see the links to these websites...Though I wasn't looking for them. I will definitely look into 8th-circuit. I like writing about gaming aspects that I enjoy. As you know.

We're just setting up the footer in the coming days.

We host 8th-Circuit.com. We also do some of the tech stuff for it (like update the Circuit Boards, etc.). And, of course, I contribute articles.

But 8-circuit has its own forum...I must agree that they seem more like an affiliate.

In a sense it is. It's a lot less an affiliate then someone like Ichimonai.com, which is wholly independent. For instance, we do cross promotions, etc. They're like our best friend. And their forum is deader than ours.

Well why not make our own website? You know a blog or article library. And maybe do game guides!! Game guides are fun but they are really hard work so you need like 2-3 people for most.

We're working on the issue of links, hence the whole Network thing.

Well what would be the "home base" of all these sites? Like what one site is going to link to everything else?

You're on it. We are the primary host, and will be changing a few things to serve as a hub. We're also looking at unified logins, etc.

As for doing it ourselves, we don't have the capacity as this time.

Ah I got you. How would I apply for 8-circuit? I don't have to become a forum member do I? As you said unified logins could be a possibility in the future, and this Login has a bit more respect to it (with 2k posts and all). I'd just hate to start out with 0 posts yet be writing articles for the website. I know some people look down on that because they would think I am not a part of the community.

If you're interested in writing for 8C, the best bet is to have an article submitted to us. We accept user submissions and will put them up after the Ed team has mauled it. If you're interested in becoming a Staff Writer/Ed, your article is given to the editor that primarily deals with whatever topic. Knowing you, it'd be Nintendo, and as such, the editor in question would be me.

Alright I will do that. Oh and I was looking through the articles and discovered one on the Jadusable ARG. You should probably look into having the author of the article write another segment. It has come a long way since that was posted.
