What's with the huge UL/DL disparity?

Dunno, but cable connections always seem to have pretty poor upload speed in comparison to downstream. Upload should be much better once they start pushing DOCSIS 3.1 + gigabit, though.

Every fibre connection in New Zealand is also now capable of 1000/500 Mbps, as of the 1st of the month. I sure wish I could get fibre, since it'd be simultaneously cheaper, faster, and more reliable.

Google Fiber is near me, but not in my city. It's like...5 miles away from me.

Turns out we'll be getting gigabit far sooner than I expected! We should be able to get gigabit on Wednesday.  tastyperson;

Looking at a ~1000/100 Mbps line. Super excited for that upload speed in particular. Will make it even easier to host services from home.

Gigabit got installed. We're paying ~$65 USD per month for this.

i think that's how most are

Correct. Symmetric down/upload speed is generally business or enterprise-class and much more expensive. My town is slowly rolling out gigabit, but they're doing it neighborhood by neighborhood, and mine is pretty much bottom of the barrel on their priority list.

Nope, just a small, rural telephone coop. They're laying down all of their own fiber. Makes it even more ridiculous that most of the big telcos already have fiber in the ground and refuse to do anything with it.

here's my rig, with the latest technology of 2012 in it
Surprisingly, that 5750 still keeps up with most newer games on full settings.

The CPU is an i5-3470, not sure why it doesn't say that.
