We switched over to Windows Defender...it works better, isn't as obnoxious to deal with, and is free.

I think we have a winner.

I really hate how I've made more than 12,000 posts here. Thankfully this swaying, moving Chandelure makes it all worth it.

This pretty much. I've never needed antivirus much for anything, but it's nice to have anyway. Especially when I myself didn't have to pay for it.

Norton takes up too many resources for so little protection. I think the golden trio was McAfee, Malwarebytes, and SuperAntiSpyware for freeware. I still use Norton (as much as I hate it >.>) but I use Malwarebytes and SAS for my lappy.
Puts the lotion on the skin or it gets the hose again!

NoScript + Adblock Plus + WOT will stop 95+% of threats right out of the gate if you're not a total ignoramus about basic PC security precautions.

AV: Avast (Avira and MSE are also worthy freeware choices)
Firewall: Windows Firewall (behind a router, ZoneAlarm got poopty 5 years ago, and I don't really need the full-fledged HIPS that Comodo offers)

I just realized that I never have any firewall on.
It intercourse s with my connection for games.
