I'm pretty excited for this game. Finally we get an Animal Crossing that's more than just paying off loans to Tom Nook.

Here's part of an interview between Iwata and the developers of Animal Crossing: New Leaf. I thought it was funny.
Iwata
So your initial concept was that the player could place a variety of objects in the town, and then that inspired the idea of the player being the mayor and making decisions about the way the town should look.

Moro
That's right. When we put it all together so that the player became the mayor and constructs the town by means of undertaking various public works projects, it really worked well.

Kyogoku
But the problem was that there was already a mayor...

Iwata
Ah, yes. Tortimer.

Kyogoku
We were asking ourselves: "What should we do about Tortimer?" (laughs)

All
(laughter)

Moro
And we decided to have him retire.

Iwata
So you forced him out of office! Mayor Tortimer retired! (laughs)

Moro
He accepted it gracefully. And fortunately, we found a place where he could live in his retirement.

Kyogoku
He's living there now, happily! (laughs)
You can read the full interview here.

It's already incredibly popular in Japan. It comes out in America June 9th.

What are your thoughts?

I'm excited! It comes out right after my birthday
I'm trying to stay mostly spoiler free though, because I want to be surprised by the new content.

Good job! I, Viewtifulboy, declare you the CHAMPION!

I'm the official winner of the Viewtiful Victory roleplay championship!

Mona

Ooooh, I see.
I'm sure you'll be pleasantly surprised, then. :>

Sirwaddy

I've been watching Wiifolder Josh's playthrough journals and it's looking like a lot of fun. but I may cut back because having a surprise factor sounds appealing.

honestly, i've played every one of these games and i still don't see the lasting appeal

mona in particular nukes her town every so often to start over

what is the point to doing random tasks for animal people? To collect poop? Then why is there a cap on item storage that doesn't meet or exceed the amount of items that exist?

turnips are where the real bells are man

Super

Real life sucks ass. In Animal Crossing, there is no need to worry about getting animals pregnant or anything (unless Nintendo decided to throw that feature in there).

FOR THE BESTIALITY FAN IN YOU

I like how in New Leaf you become the mayor of the town. Gives a little more objective to the game other than "pay off your mortgage".

Better than being Tom Nook's ninny, I'd say.
