Title: SimCity
Post by: Tupin on March 05, 2013, 09:28:49 PM
Or: How I Learned to Stop Playing and Started to Hate the First-Day Patch

I was so hyped for this game and it's completely broken. I can't play the tutorial, and the menus in the actual game don't show up.

Why does this happen with ever major release now? Why can't they do the most basic amount of Q&A testing?

Haven't played it, but from what I've seen poop is kind of either awesome or intercourse ed for it.
I really don't like the whole "ALWAYS HAVE TO BE ONLINE" deal

i think part of the reason is that press copies received good scores was because they were playing pre-embargo and when they were writing this poop up and playing through it features hadn't been removed and severs worked but like Diablo III as soon as it actually launched poop intercourse ed up hard

Polygon's initial review was a 9.5. Then they updated it with an 8. Now it is a 4.5.

Sounds about right.

Okay, so actually playing the darn game, I have several complaints:

1. The cities are way too small, 2x2x2km was never even the biggest option you could choose in earlier games.

2. No way to implement subway systems. Seriously? How do you exclude something so essential in a modern city as that?

3. You NEED to run more than one town to make one town grow. Partially because the cities are too small and partially because it forces you to build "Great Works" at predetermined areas and this includes things like large monuments or international airports.

4. No terraforming the land. Seriously, why?

I'm guessing most of these things were made like this so they can provide DLC later on, of course.

So I just got an email from EA saying I get to choose from a list of games to get for free. One of the games on the list?

SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition.

My sides. I'll still probably just get Dead Space 3 since I already have several ways to play SC4.

they're framing it as an apology, but they're giving the same bonus to new sales within the next couple of weeks.

they're banking on people buying sim city for the free game, so they can report higher sales.

but the anti-piracy measures won't hold up for more than another week or so, so might as well get what they can i guess.

i'm not even sure why you would want to pirate this game

I've watched some lets plays and while it looks nice, you cannot build intricate cities like in past games.

How people get a population of one million in this game, I have no clue. I don't even know how people get more than 100K.

Well the cherry on the cake in this entire debacle is that the whole "cloud-computing" thing is, according to hackers, a farce.

Not surprised in the least

Yeah it's already been taken offline with mods and now you can edit the roads and build outside the boundary and stuff.

not, oh you know

a subway system that literally any metropolis of a good size has
