Title: Card games?
Post by: Magnum on May 04, 2010, 08:11:51 PM
(Insert YGO abridged joke here)
Alright, you probably all know that I like to play Magic: The Gathering. I talk about it all the time. But I occasionally play Pokemon and rarely YGO as well. All of which I find REALLY fun.
But does anyone on here play any form of card games? Or maybe collect some like Baseball cards?

I used to play/collect Pokemon yugioh very early on. And I used to collect Baseball cards during my childhood. I don't collect them anymore but I still have all the I collected.

I did Pokemon.
I was huge on Yugioh. Still have my old cards.
I also dabbled in DBZ for a while. Shit was hard.

Hey, I love MtG too! Arachnid, Magnum, would either of you be interested in an online game? By which I mean play against each other using MSN or something similar and webcams.

HELL YEAH!!!! I'm seriously didn't think that anyone here would play. What sort of decks do you have?

I challenge everyone in this thread to a children's card game.

Also, I used to have a bunch of Pokemon cards, but I gave quite a bit away. I also have a massive binder full of YGO cards. I still remember YGO matches years ago...

Well, I've got an Elf peasant deck, I've got a new deck made from the (evidentally old) 'new' set, the one with the land cascade thing. I've got a couple of Kamigawa decks. A sliver deck. Amongst others. I've got probably a good twenty or so, nothing compared to my dad, of course.

Is the Sliver the pre-made one they came out with recently or did you make it out of the old Wrath cycle and/or Time Shift?

Built it myself, out of Time Spiral and Wrath. Why?

We just have a bunch of punk kids here that think they are so cool because they bought it and can beat all the other kids. Really easy to destroy with my Soldier, but it is so stupid to hear them gloat.

My sliver deck is a rainbow one that has... probably at least eighty, maybe as much as ninety cards. It's a big deck.

Sliver Queen? I'm just curious, because that is an endgame right there.

I've been looking for one, and a Sliver Overlord as well, but I can't find either. Although since I kill people really, really quickly, it doesn't matter so much.

Card games are fun, especially children card games.  But if you want to play them nowadays, you'll have to do it online or with your little cousins, because fun isn't acceptable in modern society.

I collected Pokemon cards when I was little, but too young to understand how to play. I played Yugioh when I was a little older because one of my friends got me into it. He always wanted me to play it with him at recess but I turned him down every time to go play kickball. I had a poopload of cards, but gave them all to my good friend when I was finished with that craze and she was still into it. I really like poker, my brother got me into it since he plays it for a living. When I went to a summer camp we had Setback tournaments. By the end of the summer I was amazing at that game (and also perfected the art of shuffling cards).

I always enjoy card games. And what happened to the poker nights that we were supposed to have? We really should do that. Get a group together and just webcam it or something. Of course, the rules would have to be altered for online use.

I am with Magnum in that I play MTG and Pokemon. My best deck is by far my elves and my favorite deck would have to be my wurms.

I played Pokemon, I played Yu-Gi-Oh. Hell, I played the DBZ card game, I've stuck with Magic though.
I haven't had anyone to play against locally in a while though, I don't even know where my decks are :S

Is there an online version? I'd be all over that.

Fuck Magic the Gathering.

YGO got REALLY dull after awhile.

And I've never EVER liked the pokemon TCG except just to collect them.

My card game of choice: Texas Hold'em

All you Magic dudes, I totally wanna play you. I only have like 3 decks:
an artifact-heavy red/blue/swamp,
a white/green that gets me buttloads of life,
and a black/blue that I modified from an Eldrazi starter deck.

I have an Emrakul, the Aeons Torn (http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=193452) but I dunno where to put it.

Also, a friend of mine will be teaching me Old Maid and Go Fish this weekend.

Hey shut up.

Emrakul's not in any of my decks so it'll all be okay. =P

I really only use AIM, so I better get an MSN or whatever pretty soon.

I'll have to find someone who has one cause I don't, but I'll be happy to play if I can find one. Magnum might have one I can borrow.

So a few days ago I went to a semi-local Friday Night Magic at the comic store (Graham Crackers in Naperville IL, if you're close).

And I was really surprised at how inexperienced I was. Like, I could beat my friends easy, but outside of casuals it's way more rigid on rules. Still was hella fun though.

Has anyone been to a card tourney of any sort?

Magic is very interesting and awesome, but I don't know all of the rules and I can't find my cards. I didn't have too many either though.

I first collected Pokémon cards and still have all of them--which is a lot. I mainly learned the rules from an official computer game that I have.

Then I collected Yu-gi-oh! cards, which I pretty much still all have, though I've lost track of my main deck, which is very unfortunate for me because it basically made me the best duelist out of my friends.

I don't collect much of either of my main TCG's anymore, but I occasionally buy a couple of packs after a while just to see what I get. I really wish I had someone to play with though. Then I'd definitely get back into it.

By the way, I really only play Yu-gi-oh!. I can play Pokémon, but I don't know much about good strategy for that game and I can't find any of my decks for it.

I still have a ton of my Dragonball Z cards, and even though that game had some weird rules and card types, I enjoyed it when I played it. I wouldn't mind buying a structure deck for sake of having the play materials, such as the Power Sword, and the rule book. I'd love to make a deck or two with some friends and hash it out, but I doubt that's ever going to happen. :/ I doubt I have any friend's who would enjoy playing DBZTCG

I've still got most (if not all) of my Pokemon cards, though I can't really remember the exact playing rules, and I don't think I'll ever find anyone to play with me.
Now if only I could find my little book thing with all my rare and awesome cards in it...

DBZ cards were complicated, but I had a ton of them. I remember having the Majin set.

The only ones I ever had I got when I was 10 and had a Toys R Us gift card. They had some huge box with 2 starter decks and a bunch of boosters. All from the saiyan saga.

It sort of got to me, how power levels were exponentially higher in later sets. Was the game designed to be so incompatible or was I doing it wrong?

It's like the DBZ games. You can't use kid Gohan vs. Majin Buu. Just wouldn't work.

The fighting games? I remember in Budokai everybody could kill everyone else.

Being a Magic player though and just getting into the tournament scene, they have cycling sets (every year or so, a new set is printed, old sets become illegal) so I guess it's not too weird.

I played Pokemon for a little while....but the TCG got retarded due to insane HP amounts for later cards. (Turtwig has as much HP as a gen 1 Kadabra).

I also played Yugioh for awhile. My Exodia deck was pretty undefeatable, as well as my Jinzo/Summoned Skull deck.

I got Digimon cards once (lol) and tried to learn the TCG, but then I said "screw that!" and basically just RP'ed with my cards....which I now do for all of my cards basically. :P

And I also have a poopton of basketball and football cards, mostly from the '90s, which means that I have bought a grand total of less than twenty cards in the past five years.
