Title: Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 Adventure guide
Post by: Nayrman on October 09, 2012, 09:34:34 PM
Hey all. Just like Black 1, I'll be updating my progress throughout the game so we have something to talk about! Update your logs here as well. :)

Currently at Nimbasa City. The game is really good so far, and very fast. It's like they're making up for all the BS in other games by letting you do things you should've been able to do from the get go. Overall, really digging it. Story is a bit weak so far, but oh well. I enjoy just walking around for now.

Current team:
Pignite lvl 26
Servine lvl 26
Dewott lvl 26
Flaafy lvl 26
Keldeo (Resolute Forme) lvl 26
Genesect lvl 26

So I'm peacefully walking through a route, and this Hiker comes at me and says, "Shut up and battle me!" Well, how rude! I feel offended!

I play in the Uber tier sometimes, so not particularly.

I'm intrigued. Nayrman's complaints for video games usually involve how pathetically easy they are. Black 2 is so far the easiest Pokemon game I've ever played. Having two legendaries and three starters kinda pushes the game further in that direction.

But who plays Pokemon for a challenge? Can't answer that one. lol

Pokemon is easy because if all else fails, you can just GRIND. There's enough complexity, meta-game, etc. if you want to do challenge runs, low level runs, etc. The main story/game of pokemon I always kind of coast, do a bit of grinding here and there to make things a tad easier, explore and just enjoy myself. It's a turn based RPG, it's not likely you're playing for the gameplay in it of itself.

Just outside Route 6, have five badges and did the pokemon wolrd tournament thing and beat up some Plasma grunts.

Team is same as before, but now level 33 on all and Flaafy evolved.

I'm aware. I was mentioning that I play in the tier because he asked if I disliked legendaries, and I don't.

There are three non-legendaries in the Uber tier and counting alternate forms there are 41 Pokemon in the Uber tier. So yeah, there is a distinct reason why I connect "legendary" to "Uber".

So, is anyone naming their Pokemon? I usually don't in my first playthrough of a game, but since I'm already familiar with all of these Pokemon I decided I would.

This is my team:
Dewott (f) - Noriko
Flaafy (m) - Oron
Lucario (f) - Ayla
Petilil (f) - Lili
Flareon (m) - Asbel
Scraggy (f) - Junko

Beat the game, caught all legendaries minus the Regis, as getting them all requires trading and otehr weird stuff I don't care about.

Beat Black Tower and got my Shiny Gible, nice. Although due to stuff being White 2 exclusive completely, I dont' think I can see every pokemon in the unova dex and get my Shiny Haxorus... unless someone knows a way to check trainers in the region and see what pokemon they have and if I can battle them.

Yeah, but that's still lame. I should at least be able to battle trainers for them... <_<;;

that wasn't made clear until now.

I agree, the DS hardware was not built for what GF tried to do.

I usually only quote posts if i'm replying to an older part of the thread, or singling out a particular part of a post. Quote blocks add unnecessary clutter to linear discussion threads.

And while we're on the topic of design, it's easy to single out a handful of good pokemon, because the good 5th gen designs are some of the best since 1st gen. But it's incredibly inconsistent, the worst 5th gen designs are easily the worst in series history.

I'll agree with you there, but I think it balances out.

I don't look at the good pokemon and think 'this makes up for the bad pokemon'. I look at the good pokemon and think 'why the intercourse  did they feel the need to make this the biggest expansion to date'

had they trimmed out 30-40 of the poopty pokemon it would have been about the same size as the past 3 generations, and it would have surpassed them all. that and better starters. they don't make a good first impression.
Title: Re: Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 Adventure guide
Post by: Mona on October 15, 2012, 11:31:57 PM
The reason why they had so many Pokemon this gen is because they made Black and White with the past Pokemon being unobtainable until the end of the game. Also, they can't please everyone with every single design they use. Some people actually like Conkeldurr and Tympole... even though I hate both of those Pokemon's designs with a passion.

Some designs grew on me after a while. I hated Scraggy and Scrafty at first, but now they're two of my favorites. Oshawott is another one that I got used to after a while. If only it didn't have those freckles or the huge orange nose...

yes thats the problem.

someone decided they needed 150+ new pokemon so they came up with/left in a bunch of poopty filler just to reach that number.

So I walk in Game Stop on a random Sunday, not even planning to go there, but went there. I asked which game he prefers, Mario 3D Land, or Kid Icarus? He answers, I say "I'll take it," I look down, see a magazine of B2/W2 and say, "when do these games come out?" "Today." "Oh, how convenient. I'll take White 2 Instead." "Here you go."
So I unintentionally got White 2 on release day, and saved 5 bucks because both of the other options were for 3DS.

Just yesterday, I got the second badge and got stuck in the theater (as in, I keep doing new movies). I feel accomplished.

It was their choice to kind of do the whole "fresh start" thing and start with a new dex from the ground up like they did for Gen I. It's actually not a bad idea in theory, but some of the new pokemon end up looking so much like mere replacements of Gen I regulars. On the positive side, though: as much as we all love Geodude, it's kind of nice seeing a common rock-type that's not Geodude for a change--to give just one example.

And just think, Gen I had some "filler" Pokemon that I'm sure a lot of people didn't love at first. But since we grew up on Gen I Pokemon, each and every one of them is special to us in a way.

You should definitely get both 3D Land and Kid Icarus eventually. When you have the extra money, that is. Both amazing games.
