Title: Any events recently remind you that you're getting older?
Post by: Lotos on May 28, 2010, 06:01:12 PM
Today is my sister's 13th birthday.  (Edit: I also have to add that she's the "baby" of the family -- she's the youngest amongst us and our cousins on both sides of the family)  In about three months, I will be 18.  It feels like yesterday that she was only 10.  Then again, that was when I had a social life.

Well, not older, but two girls that were in my grade, one of whom I was very close with, passed away this week.

Makes me realize how short life is.

Well, I went to the Class of 2010's graduation yesterday.
That pretty much reminded me that I'm getting older and that I'm going to be a Senior next year.
Scary thought.

All my cousins that I haven't in a while are now graduating from high school and going off to college.  Not to long ago we were little and playing together >_<

What does this mean?

On topic: The search for a college I guess. I want to take it easy, but I'm kind of being rushed.

Paradoxically, my next and last year of high school, as it'll be "only" one more year, but also a "whole 'nother" year.

That just about tops anything else in this thread.

As for me, just the process of looking for colleges, etc. It reminds me of the good old days when I didn't have to worry about jobs, cars, rejection letters, paying for college, leaving home, making my own dinner, doing my own laundry, etc. The simple things that my parents used to do for me? Done. And after college, it isn't back home to my family, it's out to find my own home. Fuck man, I only get a little over a year left of living here. All I feel is old right now.

Yes, yes, yes. This part of life is so sad. It makes you realize that your parents can't do everything for you anymore unless you still live with them--and who wants that? It made me realize that I can't do my own laundry, I hate yard work and will be doing much more of it eventually, I have to learn how to drive everywhere and drive well, and I have to go food shopping and make my own dinner that's not frozen 100% of the time--not to mention paying for all of this.

Mystic, I wouldn't say you having a kid should be a realization of you getting older. You're still young, it's not like the baby was planned. If it was planned, then yeah, you could take it's birth as a sign of you getting older... but it was an accident, wasn't it? Kids/teens have accidents. No reason to feel old.

- My graduation is tomorrow. It seems like just yesterday I graduated 8th grade... Hell it seems like a week ago I went to my older sister's graduation, but it's been thirteen years since then.

- My youngest nephew's birthday. (Three nephews, two nieces.) I've been called "Auntie Jasi" since I was two, but since I turned eighteen (and a half), hearing "auntie" before my name has got me feelin' old.

- I found old drawings from 6th grade and compared them to my current drawings. My have those changed. xD

- My baby sister turned sixteen. ... WHAT THE FUCK!? Where did all that darn time go!? Wasn't I JUST beating the poop outta the punk that was pickin' on her two seconds ago!?

- I found a gray hair amongst my dark brown locks. 'Nuff said. >.<

A few years back was one of the most stressful times in my life and I had a few gray hairs. Now, yeah my life is still a lot of work but I manage and I'm probably the happiest I've ever been. That being said, the hairs are gone. Stress is a major factor in that.

They'll probably go away if you're stressed right now.

Starlin Castro of the Chicago Cubs is the first player born in the 90's to play in the big leagues.
He's two months younger than I am.

Steven Strausberg of the Nationals is the most hyped player right now. A year and a half older than me.

Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane of the Chicago Blackhawks (Hockey) are also a year and a half older than me. They each have a 5 year deal both of which are at least $60 million.

Yet here I am slaving away in college in classes I don't give a poop about. POR QUA!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

You're allowed to do that?  I got in trouble for having my shirt on inside-out after being downstairs with my girlfriend, then again later for changing my pants (but my parents may have been onto something there :x).

Edit:  I think I'm a year or two younger than you, but I'm sure this will still be the case in a few months when I turn 18.

I graduated a few hours ago.  Zero has the words I'd like to say:

Um, hiding the easter eggs, my baby sister entering kindergarten (the same one who was learning to walk a few months ago, it seems like) also my other sister entering 4th grade when she was in first grade, a year ago? Not really but darn.

Not getting kid-sized drinks in restaurants. Up until a year ago, I was really short and often got mistaken for a 12 year old. ;_; I'm 15 now and that never happens.

Um, yeah, all that same old nearing the end of school crap.

Also my aunt is having a baby in August. First baby in the family that wasn't my mothers' (Before this, both of my parents were the last in their families to have kids) ..so yeah, by the time that baby cousin is 3 I'll be well into college. Pretty scary thought, considering how quickly both of my sisters grew the first 3 years D:

I'm still pretty young though. Hahaha, you geezers.

I'm almost 17 now.

Well, playing Pokemon recently has been amusing. Though I keep reminiscing to my thirteen year old brother about about how "That's cool, but I remember back in Red and Blue...."
Also, me recently freaking out over obtaining a Dreamcast after my first one got lost. That made me feel a little old. Especially how few kids these days even know what a DC is. O_o

I suppose there is also finally hitting twenty years old. It's an odd feeling knowing that you're no longer a teenager...
It's a weird feeling getting older, but it is balanced out well by keeping the things I've enjoyed since I was young close.

I just turned 17. 1 year away from being an adult... *sob*

Whatever. I guess i'm happy about it. I currently live in an appartment with my best friend, but still in the same town as my parents. But when I turn 18, i'm FINALLY moving away from this tiny poop town. I've been saving money since I was like... 14 to move away. Who knows? Mabe me, my boyfriend, and best friend will all end up moving to Japan. We all love it and speak some Japanese. It's just a matter of finding a place in our price range.

Ugh... It's a pain to get older and have to think about these things...
