Hey guys, I am going to be looking for a desktop computer to play games on fairly soon. (I miss playing Fallout 3: Game of the Year edition).  =(

Any suggestions? I'm not looking for anything terribly expensive, either.

DINAH I EAT DINAH EVERY NIGHT LAST NIGHT I HAD PIZZA HAHAHAHAH

Spud

Just order the parts and build it yourself. It's a lot cheaper that way.

Kayo

The only way to get exactly what you want, price and all, is to build one up yourself.
I really hate how I've made more than 12,000 posts here. Thankfully this swaying, moving Chandelure makes it all worth it.

If you want more specific advice than build it yourself, we need a price range.

You can put together a decent system that can play most games at mid-high @ 1080p native resolution for around 700-800 if you're willing to sacrifice a little CPU power and go AMD (not that you really need CPUs in gaming situations other than in FPSes; games are GPU dependent).

As SSM said, need a price range if you want any more specifics.

Definately build one, its much more efficient than the factory built ones you can get. Im building a desktop this Christmas with a little help from my Ex roommate from last year. The one im getting is probably gonna have 16 gigs of RAM. I7 Sandy Bridge 2600K, Dual Nvidia 460 GTX graphics cards (If not, just will switch to a 560 GTX), 2 terabyte harddrive...quite a bit more.

Im estimating mine around 1.5 to 2K to build.

Then again for a desktop audio, i'd recommend Klipsch Audio. They make great quality sound systems.

But for yours, compare 1K factor built computers to parts, be sure to get the right ones that are compatibale though, that can be a problem if you dont.

Good websites to find them is either Tigerdirect or Newegg. There you can find quality parts and desktop bases for good prices.

2TB HDD is going way overboard but if you have the money go for it.

Anyway if you're too lazy to build your own computer but still want something "custom built", there are places you can go.

Amazon is one of them. You can usually find a computer or two that basically has all the parts you would have had to have pieced together anyway already made and ready to go. Microtel is one manufacturer that sells this stuff over amazon and they make pretty reliable machines.

Ok so i did some searching and i got good deals on several items for a high speed desktop with good mail in rebates on them.

So far, this is what i got on my list

ASUS P8Z68 Deluxe LGA 1155 Intel Z68 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard with UEFI BIOS

Intel Core i7-2600K Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor (O.C to 5.5 -6 Ghz)

Mushkin Enhanced Blackline 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) (X2)

MSI N580GTX Twin Frozr II/OC GeForce GTX 580 (Fermi) 1536MB 384-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP
OR
MSI N560GTX-TI Twin Frozr II/OC GeForce GTX 560 Ti (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP

just a couple of parts that are on a good sale price right now.

-2600k's a waste unless you do a lot of vid or audio encoding. Save yourself a hundred bucks and get the 2500k; that's money you can put towards a good aftermarket cooler and GPU. 2500k's plenty fast on its own and it OCs like a mofo if for some reason you still don't think you're getting enough performance.

-I have never used more than 4 GB of memory. You may be different if you're a person who has 20 FF tabs open at once.

-560 Ti or HD 6870 will do you good at high/max settings @ 1080p in virtually all games. 560 and 6850 will still do mostly everything at high/max with the exception of Crysis 2 and the really ninny-demanding games. Would recommend a 6950 over the 560 Ti; Nvidia's drivers intercourse ing suck as of late, and before everyone goes OMG PY UR AMD FANBOI, I just swapped the HD 4850 in my rig for a factory-overclocked 560 non-Ti. Go to the Nvidia forums if you don't believe me about the driver issues.

-Cards above the HD 6850 (6870, 6950, etc.) and GTX 560 Ti (570, 580) are intercourse ing long; you'll probably need a full-tower ATX case instead of a mid-tower.

That was my plan with the 2600K

And the Case im getting is the HAF X Coolermaster. i believe thats a full tower. I saw those graphics cards when my roommate was building a computer last year. theyre pretty big.
